Real Blogging Brides: Clare – Advice to myself to get me through my final two weeks of wedding planning!

24/04/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

Clare will be marrying Chris on 5th May 2018 at Laura Ashley The Manor in Elstree, UK.

THREE FACTS: (1) Clare is not Jewish but discovered Smashing The Glass via her Jewish sister-in-law and during her wedding planning journey it has (in her own words!) became her favorite and most useful wedding blog (2) She finds STG refreshing in a sea of wedding blogs as she loves reading stories of couples for whom the ceremony itself is as pivotal as all the other details. (3) Due to falling in love with so many amazing Jewish weddings through the blog, and then booking a wedding consultancy session with STG founder, Karen, it confirmed to her that there were a number of Jewish elements she was going to bring into her wedding that symbolise a lot of things that are very important to her and her fiancà© in their future marriage – she will be having a ‘Jewish-inspired’ wedding!

As I write this it is only a couple of weeks until my wedding day. I cannot believe the time has gone so quickly. Having a near two year engagement I assumed everything would be done really easily, I’d be stress free, have my dream body for my wedding and be totally ready for the big day.

Oh how wrong I was!

I’ve definitely been experiencing the stress and pressure in the last few weeks. I’m not sleeping well, every moment is taken up by thinking about weddings and the minutiae of my day.

So as I considered what I could write about at this stage in the day, when I don’t want to give much away regarding what the actual day will look like; I decided to give myself a bit of a talking to and some good advice to get me through the next couple of weeks as stress free as possible. In doing this I called to mind all the many pieces of wedding advice and wisdom that have been passed on to me by friends, family and anything I have read that has stuck with me.

So here is a summary of the advice I have come across. The good, the bad, and the bits I might have ignored!

Real Jewish Brides – Charlotte: Choosing The Groom’s Outfit At The Wedding Gallery

03/04/2018 by Smashing The Glass

Charlotte will be marrying James on 26th August 2018 at The Brewery, in London, UK. Click here to read all Charlotte’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) James proposed to Charlotte in Florence… on her parent’s 36th wedding anniversary (aaaah – we love that!)  (2) They are planning a Jewish urban-rustic wedding in East London (3) They have already decided on their wedding hashtags — it’s #dropitlikeitshart !

London’s The Wedding Gallery, a one stop department store for all things wedding is seriously amazing when you first start planning, but at this late stage I had to find an excuse to go, this is where James comes in!

James was thinking about suits, and had been going back and forth knowing he didn’t want just any off the rack number. He wanted custom made. There are so many places around London that do this, but having looked into the appointments they have at The Wedding Gallery* I knew this would be right for him.

James had done some minor research, the words “James Bond in Sky Fall” or “Leonardo Di Caprio in The Great Gatsby” came to his mind when looking at suits. So at least we had an idea for style when we went.

Real Blogging Brides: Clare – Choosing Outfits for the Groom and Groomsmens

27/03/2018 by Smashing The Glass

About Blogging Bride Clare: She will be marrying Chris on 5th May 2018 at Laura Ashley The Manor in Elstree, UK.

With TV shows like Say Yes To The Dress and numerous amount of time in wedding magazines and blogs given to brides finding the perfect dress, it can somewhat take over the wedding preparations.

Any engaged girl will know that the amount of times you get asked ‘Have you got the dress yet? ‘or any number of other dress related questions just never stops! So what about the men in the wedding?

I found that as we went through our long list of ‘to-do’s’ for the big day, choosing my fiancà©’s outfits and the groomsmen attire was getting pushed until quite near the end. For many brides, this may be an area they are happy to hand over to their man, but as a little bit of a wedding control freak (different to bridezilla I promise!) I definitely had to be involved in ensuring the overall look would suit the rest of the day.

When choosing outfits for the males in the wedding party there’s actually a lot more choice than I first imagined. The decision of black tie, morning suits or lounge suits before you even factor in colours and fabrics…

Real Jewish Brides – Amanda: My Final Week of Wedding Planning!

20/03/2018 by Smashing The Glass

Amanda will be marrying Adam on 25th March 2018 in a Jewish wedding at Braxted Park, UK.

THREE FACTS: (1) Amanda & Adam met outside in a bar in Tel Aviv (2) Adam has a ridiculous sense of humor (as described by Amanda!) and we love him all the more for it (3) Amanda & Adam’s wedding is 100% focused on all the people and things that mean the most to them. You can click here to read all Amanda’s planning posts to date.

So here we are. My final post and the last week in my wedding planning journey. For those of you wondering, I most certainly did not follow all of the advice in my previous post and as a result, we’ve experienced a fairly stressful two weeks, culminating in a bout of flu in the Yaffe-Parker household at the end of last week!

I have no doubt that some of the virus can be attributed to the two and a half day stag do that Adam endured in Budapest, but I’m fairly certain this was more than man-flu! Fingers crossed that the terrible cough I’ve been listening to for the last 10 days disappears before the ceremony!

Real Jewish Brides – Mel: Top Tips for a Jewish Wedding… and my wedding is this Sunday!

13/03/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

Mel  will be marrying Mitch this Sunday 18 March 2018, in a Jewish wedding at Warren Weir at Luton Hoo, UK.

THREE FACTS: (1) Mel and Mitch met online on JDate (2) Their Jewish wedding will be classy and traditional with plenty of modern touches  (3) Mel is a member of Smashing The Glass’s private members club VIB Club. Not yet a member? Come join us here!

The final countdown

As I write this it is two weeks until the big day. 2 weeks! 73 weeks ago we got engaged and now there’s just a fortnight until I’m married. Cannot. Believe. It.

Everyone said to me when we set the date that time would go quickly. It was well over a year away so felt like plenty of time. They were right. Time has disappeared. Brides — cherish your planning time; it will be over in a flash.

How am I feeling?

For the last few months everyone has asked me the same question; “Not long now until the big day. How are you feeling?”

I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve been asked this. And every time I say the same thing; I get flutters of excitement, anticipation, nerves and fear. It hasn’t quite dawned on me yet that I’m getting married. I’m not sure when it will feel real — I’ll have to get back to you on that one.
