Ori & Shani | Urban-Chic Jewish lesbian wedding at Avigdor 22, Tel Aviv, Israel - Smashing the Glass

Today will brighten up your Thursday whatever mood you’re in. Such joy and happiness radiates from every single image! Ori and Shani look super hot in their four Dany Mizrachi gowns (yes both brides wore two dresses each all by the same designer – how snazzy is that?!).

There are so many pretty decor touches too — I love the cute signage, the mini potted plant wedding favours, and the framed photos of Ori and Shani dotted about their achingly cool warehouse-style venue in the heart of the city.

And of course, not one, but TWO glasses were smashed at the end of their Jewish wedding ceremony!

These two brides have such a sweet proposal story and organised their whole affair in just 5 months. It’s a wonderful day full of smiles and happiness and it’s all stunningly captured by none other than one of our talented Smashing Suppliers, Igor Lubenski.

the proposal

Ori, the Bride: Shani took me to Haifa for my birthday to a beautiful hotel with amazing views. On my birthday evening we went to the same restaurant where we had spent our first dinner date about 10 months earlier. At the end of the evening I was sure I would be getting a new iPhone 5. Shani took out the present, it was the iPhone 5 box, but inside, instead of a phone there was the amazing ring.

From the proposal (11/6/14) to the wedding (11/11/14) it was exactly 5 months.

A warehouse venue in the heart of Tel Aviv

We got married at Avigdor 22 in Tel Aviv. We loved the chef, Ran Shmueli, and the food and the place is very ‘urban’, stylish and chic. At the end of the day we fell in love with the venue as it felt so much like “us”.

We live in Tel Aviv, and lead a very ‘urban’ life, so we very much wanted to tie this style to our whole wedding.

A good friend of mine made us a cool sign of two brides and we used it on the invitations and also as little decorative details on the napkins and other bits and pieces.

two wedding dresses each…

We wore four wedding dresses in all — two each! Dany Mizrachi was the designer of all of them, and he also created our jewellery. He suggested the style and we listened to him! When the dresses were ready we were amazed how they fitted our bodies, and more then that – our character.

…and four pairs of shoes!

As we had four dresses we needed four pairs of shoes. Shani’s shoes where from Nine West and I bought mine online from Ali Express.

In keeping with our chic urban wedding theme, our chuppah was pretty simple with just a small amount of delicate flowers incorporated into the structure.

The ceremony

We walked down the aisle to Adele’s One and Only, and two of our best friends officiated the ceremony. It was so very special – it was super intimate and it touched everybody’s heart.

We worked with Sapir Shabat at Flower Booth, to do all the flower design, we wanted the main colour to be yellow, with a little green and white. She did an amazing job – we couldn’t have asked for better! We also asked her to create a table covered with flowers upon which she laid little bouquets that the the guests wore as hair pieces, or carried by hand, or clipped them to their outfits.

Some of the floral decor consisted of small herb and flowers plants that we scattered all over the place and on the tables. They had a little note on them saying “take me home” for the guests to take with them. People loved the idea, and we felt like the money we spent on flowers and decor didn’t go to waste.

Our amazing photographer

Igor Lubenski was an easy choice for us to make. I have known him for years and have been following his work for a long time. When it was time to choose a photographer, all I needed to do was let Shani meet him. When she did, she told me, “that’s it – we’re going with him!”
