“My best Jewish wedding photo” by Claudine Hartzel

25/10/2015 by Karen

A weekly series where  I ask some of the world’s best wedding photographers to pick out their favourite shot from their Jewish wedding portfolio. This week it’s the turn of  Claudine Hartzel.

‘The groom’s speech’ by Claudine Hartzel

Choosing my best Jewish wedding photo was such a hard decision..  I have lots of amazing dancing shots and chuppah shots so I wanted to find an image that meant a lot to me and summed up what a Jewish wedding means to me.

Jewish weddings are about family and friends, and of course there is the dancing and food! BUT what I really enjoy  is the emotion and the happiness of all the guests.

As a photographer  it’s such a privilege to be under the chuppah so close to the bride and groom making their vows to each other. But I do also love the speeches  when everybody can see you and hear you…

I  have always loved this photograph as the groom is giving the most enthralling  speech to a sea of guests.”

‘Beach portrait’ by  Dror Einav

So why is this  my favourite? First of all I love this couple, Jordan  & Jacob were easygoing throughout  the day and they totally  trusted my photography skills. I normally avoid dramatically  posed photos, but this time it was different…

During their portrait shoot I saw these  two concrete blocks near the beach and I asked them to go and stand in front of them.  The wind blew  and moved Jordan’s  dress, and the sunset lit  them beautifully. The way they both stood  and looked at me with their serious facial  expressions together with the contrast between the blocks and the landscape.

For me, in this one photo, all the elements combined together perfectly.”

“My best Jewish wedding photo” by Chiko Photography

‘Winter Wonderland’ by  Chiko

Taken in London — a city that is never usually peaceful or quiet… yet at 1am on a Sunday night I was given  the opportunity to capture a classic and timeless wedding photo. It could have been taken directly out of a Hollywood film set. It’s romantic and pure and there is something very powerful in capturing a moment like this.

Few feelings in life compare to those you get when you see a fresh, untouched snowfall. The sight is stunning, the landscape peaceful and the feeling is sublime — all contribute to  making  a great setting on a wedding day.”

“My best Jewish wedding photo” by Adam and Hannah Photography

27/09/2015 by Karen

A weekly series where  I ask some of the world’s best wedding photographers to pick out their favourite shot from their Jewish wedding portfolio. This week it’s the turn of Adam and Hannah from  Adam and Hannah Photography  (and mazal tov to them both – they’ve just become parents to an  adorable  baby daughter!)

‘Contentment’ by  Adam and Hannah

I think it is impossible to pick one single photo out as the very best, or as our absolute favourite. Each photo comes with a whole story  of the  couple, their personalities, the day leading up to it  and  everything that came together for that  precise moment. But for me and Hannah I think there  is one  category of photographs that we love, perhaps more than others. We love the photos where we have managed to capture the split second where the bride and groom look at  each other, usually under the chuppah or in the badeken  room, and smile (or sometimes  well-up a little bit).

I think that this photo really demonstrates it,  Nicole looking at Josh  under the chuppah with utter contentment. What I really love about this photo, and others like it, is that the bride and groom  probably won’t even remember it happening. They will remember the  glass being smashed at the end of the ceremony, they will remember being thrown up on chairs during the dancing and the other ‘big’ moments, but  sneaking a quick glance at each other under the chuppah is something that will probably only come back to them when they see the photo. It’s one of the  reasons we love the job we do!”

“My best Jewish wedding photo” by Liron Erel

A new weekly series where  I ask some of the world’s best wedding photographers to pick out their favourite shot from their Jewish wedding portfolio. This week it’s the turn of  Liron Erel.

‘Chuppah’ by  Liron Erel

My chosen  image might be a bit unorthodox as it’s from a Messianic-Jewish wedding I shot in May,in Nataf, a little village close to Jerusalem.

In the moment captured, the bride is circling the groom having just reached the chuppah, with a sensational view as a backdrop to the ceremony. There was a crazy heat wave during the day of  42ËšC  (107.6ËšF), but everyone was so energised — just look at their faces — that it didn’t bother anyone…
