A Carolina Herrera Bride for a Super Elegant Jewish Wedding at Capesthorne Hall, Cheshire, UK

12/03/2018 by Karen

Jewish wedding Capesthorne Hall in Cheshire, UK_0066

Oh my goodness, this is one elegant Jewish wedding. Lauren who works in public relations, and Ross, a chartered surveyor, wanted the day to reflect all the best elements of a classic English wedding with a contemporary twist.

The couple chose Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Jenna Keller as their wedding planner (who is offering an exclusive 10% discount to all our VIB Club members!) and she helped them bring their super glam vision to life at Capesthorne Hall, a beautiful stately home in Cheshire.

We just love a floral chuppah, and Jenna came up with just the chicest variation! Lauren wanted something unique but not over-the-top, and the refined white floral canopy atop translucent poles set against the all-white marquee fits the bill exactly. It’s contemporary while embracing tradition, sophisticated and refined, just like the rest of this wedding.

To make their ceremony even more special, Lauren and Ross booked much-loved STG Recommended Vendor Boutique Chupah Music, adding to the emotional and intimate atmosphere.

Planner Jenna pointed the pair toward their wonderful photographer, Robert Shack. He did an amazing job of capturing their glamorous day, and videographer Rebecca Reville caught the festivities in live action.

Speaking of things that are glamorous, isn’t Lauren’s lace gown exquisite? It fits her like a glove, and that train! She found her Carolina Herrera stunner at yet another fabulous STG Recommended Vendor The Wedding Club in London–but she almost missed out on the dress of her dreams. At the end of a long day of shopping, Lauren was ready to call it quits after having found solid gown options at the first three of four appointments she had scheduled.

Her mum encouraged her not to cancel that final appointment, though, and luckily Lauren listened, because the very first dress her Wedding Club stylist brought out for her turned out to be the one. This goes to show that it’s always worth taking the time to check out that one last shop (or venue, or any vendor really), because you just never know where you’ll find the one! Now over to the bride herself . . .

How we met

Lauren, the bride: We first met at Habonim Dror Winter Camp in 2007 when we were both camp leaders. I remember getting on so well; however nothing romantic happened at the time!

We met again in 2011 at Birmingham City University. We were both in the same halls and decided to join forces for drinks one night during freshers’ week. We have been together ever since!Continue ReadingContinue Reading

Real Blogging Brides: Clare – Confessions of a Wedding Dress Shop Avoider (including how I found The Dress!)

05/12/2017 by Smashing The Glass

Clare will be marrying Chris on 5th May 2018 at Laura Ashley The Manor in Elstree, UK.

THREE FACTS: (1) Clare is not Jewish but discovered Smashing The Glass via her Jewish sister-in-law and during her wedding planning journey it has (in her own words!) became her favorite and most useful wedding blog (2) She finds STG refreshing in a sea of wedding blogs as she loves reading stories of couples for whom the ceremony itself is as pivotal as all the other details. (3) Due to falling in love with so many amazing Jewish weddings through the blog, and then booking a wedding consultancy session with STG founder, Karen, it confirmed to her that there were a number of Jewish elements she was going to bring into her wedding that symbolise a lot of things that are very important to her and her fiancà© in their future marriage – she will be having a ‘Jewish-inspired’ wedding!

When I was young I used to play ‘weddings‘. My mum in fact recently revealed that she has lost her wedding veil and believes it’s because it lived for some time in my dressing up box!

I once claimed my future ambition to be a wedding dress designer and carried around a note pad with my creations (all variations on a theme of a puffy ball gown, very early 1990’s…) I also used to make my mum drive slowly past the bridal shop in our town so I could peak in the window and check out the latest designs.

When I was 16 my parents had their 25th wedding anniversary and I helped plan a vow renewal ceremony and reception and spent a great deal of energy on my ‘bridesmaid’ dress and the perfect gown that my mum should wear as a ‘bride’ once more…

So all of this and yet ironically I have only just bought my wedding dress for our wedding in just over five months time. Bearing in mind we got engaged summer 2016 you can imagine the looks of disbelief, the gasps of horror and sheer exasperation of my mum, bridesmaids, work colleagues etc!

A Legends Romona Keveza Bride for a Super Luxe Rustic-Romantic Jewish Wedding at Chateau Castellaras, Cannes, France

08/11/2017 by Karen

Jewish wedding Chateau Castellaras, Cannes, France_0026
WOW!! We’re not in the habit of rating people’s weddings, but if we were, Hannah and Andrew’s stunning, rustic South of France Jewish wedding is clearly 1000/10!

First of all, just LOOK at what you can achieve with eucalyptus and baby’s breath – that chuppah is the stuff of dreams! Set against THAT view, it really doesn’t get more breathtaking. The region had special significance to the couple, who both spent childhood holidays in the South of France, and got engaged there just one year earlier.

Nutritionist Hannah carried the Provence herb theme throughout the wedding, decorating the tables with explosions of herbs and candles. How romantic does that sound?? And just imagine how heavenly the room smelled… ahh, we almost feel like we were there.

The happy couple partied so hard their reception was shut down by the police – what a story to tell the grandkids! That’s making the most of it and then some.

Hannah stunned in her beautiful lace-sleeve gown by Legends Romona Keveza purchased at none other than phenomenal STG Recommended Vendor, The Wedding Club.

Speaking of Recommended Vendors, the wedding was catered to perfection by another much-loved STG Vendor, kosher caterer, Dany’s Traiteur, who also catered the couple’s epic pre-wedding beach henna party.

Superstar photographer David Pullum, an epic talent and another much-loved Recommended Vendor whom we simply ADORE, captured the day with aplomb, as did videographer – Airsnap, creating the stunning highlights reel below.

It’s Hannah’s turn to take over the blog for all the juicy details of her and Andrew’s big day; we fell madly in love with the entire celebration, and we just know you will too!

How we met

Hannah, the bride: We met in the back of a black taxi after a night out five years ago, and the rest is history!

Facebook Live Catch Up: Savannah Miller’s Bridal Collection 2018 {with The Wedding Club}

21/09/2017 by Karen

Last week I was lucky enough to meet and interview Savannah Miller, live from the heart of central London, at South Kensington’s, The Wedding Club.

Savannah is truly one of the most modest and down-to-earth bridal designers I have ever met, not to mention INSANELY talented. She previously worked with Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson and Anya Hindmarch, before creating the label Twenty8Twelve with her sister, actress and fashion designer, Sienna Miller.

Savannah’s designs are often associated with  a Boho Luxe style, but I personally love a glamorous structured look, and absolutely adored her collection. Check out our Facebook Live above to see which glam gown I was totally and utterly OBSESSED with!

Facebook Live Catch Up: Wedding Dress Trends for 2018 {with The Wedding Club}

29/07/2017 by Karen

WOW! What a Facebook Live we had on Wednesday, live from central London’s most prestigious wedding dress store, The Wedding Club.

I spent most of it open-mouthed, taking in the awesomeness of the show-stopping  wedding gowns from some of the most sought-after wedding dress designers in the world. I’m talking Berta Bridal, Zuhair Murad, and Naeem Khan – all Smashing The Glass faves!

We were treated to a diverse range of breathtaking looks, from super-sexy and barely-there on one end of the spectrum, to lavish gowns layered with peplums, beading, sparkles and a ‘modern ballgown’ feel.

We also saw some sensational statement two-in-one styles, and overskirts that brilliantly illustrate how you can create two different looks for your chuppah ceremony and party. These drew virtual gasps in the comments boxes with lots of ‘wooooah’s and wow’s. We ADORED all your comments, questions, interaction and shares. Thank you so much!
