A Mia Pava Bride for a Vintage Garden Backyard Jewish Wedding in Bet Shemesh, Israel

Having doubts about a backyard wedding? So did today’s bride, Jodi. But Jodi and Joseph’s incredible wedding just goes to show a well-planned wedding at home is NOTHING like your average lowkey barbecue.

Israeli couple Jodi, a student at Hebrew University and the director of a program called Here Next Year, a Nefesh b’Nefesh organization that supports teenagers who are making Aliyah during their gap year in Israel, and Yoseph, who’s currently serving in the IDF, had initially planned a big Thanksgiving 2020 wedding at a gorgeous venue in Israel. But when it became clear that their original plans wouldn’t work out, they moved their date up to October and changed their venue to Yoseph’s backyard.

With the help of planner and florist Penny & Co Events, the space was transformed into the vintage garden fantasy of Jodi’s dreams, with tons of orange and pink flowers amidst lush greenery, beautiful lights and candles, and vintage styled furniture. Every inch is positively dreamy – don’t miss the incredible photos by mega-talented Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Herschel Gutman Photography (who also happens to be the very first vendor the couple booked when they got engaged)!

How we Met

Jodi, the bride: We met through a mutual friend named Yonatan. Yoseph grew up with him and  I had gone out with him once. About a year after I met him, Yonatan texted me – “I know your husband.” The rest is history 🙂Continue ReadingContinue Reading

An Archaeology Student’s Zionist Jewish Wedding at The View of the Jordan, Mitzpeh Yericho, Israel

We always love hearing how couples go about choosing their Jewish wedding venues – and Eliora and Nathan’s story is just so much fun! The bride, who’s finishing up a BA in archaeology and geography at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the groom, currently working as a security guard while he studies to be a tour guide, are passionate about ancient history – so much so that they knew incorporating it into their big day was a must!

Living in Israel, Eliora and Nathan are lucky enough to be close to Yericho, one of the world’s oldest cities – perhaps THE oldest, dating back over 10,000 years. So they opted to wed at The View of the Jordan in Mitzpeh Yericho. And the setting was far from the only personal touch the couple incorporated into their day: in honor of their shared commitment to Zionism, the pair opted for a blue and white color scheme, and even draped an Israeli flag under their chuppah so they could literally marry underneath it. And how sweet is it that Nathan played guitar himself to accompany Eliora’s walk down the aisle?! We can’t get over all the joy and emotion spilling out of each and every one of Herschel Gutman Photography’s incedible images.

These two also happened to get married in early March 2020, just as Israel was tightening up its COVID-19 restrictions – literally, new regulations were issued DURING the celebration. Lucky for Eliora and Nathan, that means they just squeaked by without having to make major modifications to their big day, though they did place hand sanitizer, gloves and wipes on every table as a precaution.

Ancient History

Eliora, the bride: The hall we got married in is called The View of the Jordan in Mitzpeh Yericho. We chose it due to the location, close to Jerusalem where most of our family and friends would be arriving from. In addition I study archaeology and I wanted a hall near an ancient city, and there is no older city than Yericho, dating back about 10,000 years – in most academic circles it is considered the oldest city in the world.Continue ReadingContinue Reading

A David’s Bride for a Dreamy Outdoor Jewish Wedding Just Before Lockdown at HaGiva, Giv’at Brenner, Israel

Smashing The Glass Brides Club member Naomi and Daniel are one seriously lucky couple. Their ridiculously gorgeous Jewish wedding in Israel took place as the COVID-19 crisis was becoming increasingly more serious, just days before the country banned gatherings of more than ten people. And while the bride, a physics teacher, and the groom, an aerospace engineer, didn’t have their big day go untouched by coronavirus – there was plenty of stress about increasing restrictions and whether family and friends from the UK would be able to make it, and in the end many guests weren’t able to make the trip – their close relatives made it out to Israel in time, and most of the wedding went to plan.

And it was an awesome plan! We’re in love with the garden vibes of their gorgeous venue, Giv’at Brenner, and we’re obsessed with the efforts these two made to personalize their day, like making a list together of seven things to pray for and then reading and praying for one item each time Naomi circled Daniel under the chuppah, and finding ways to honor female guests in their Orthodox ceremony.

And how cute is it that the couple got matching personalized Converses to wear for the reception?! The photos from Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Herschel Gutman Photography are so full of love and emotion, with each moment captured so beautifully.

Now over to the bride, who looked radiant in her simple David’s Bridal dress (the first she tried on!), which she had altered to add in sleeves and a higher neckline…

How we met

Naomi, the bride: We both grew up in London, with similar social circles, same year group but never knew each other, it wasn’t until we both made aliyah that we met!

We first met at a party in Jerusalem a few days after I had made aliyah, we chatted for about 5 minutes and Daniel wanted to ask me out but felt it wouldn’t be fair on me as I needed time to settle into the country. Over the next couple of months he hadn’t forgotten about me but some friends had told him they knew a girl who they thought would be good for him.

He agreed to meet her at a Purimseudah but thought to himself that if it didn’t go well he would try to find the number of the girl from the party. But when he walked into the Purim seudah he was surprised and delighted to find the girl from the party, me, sitting there. The rest is history!
