15/04/2020 by Smashing The Glass

Today on the blog we’re introducing our latest gorgeous crop of 2020 / 2021 Real Jewish Brides! Please give a warm welcome to Charlotte, who will be marrying Adam on 25th April 2021 at Swynford Manor in Newmarket, UK.

THREE FACTS: (1) Adam proposed to Charlotte on holiday in Cyprus (2) Charlotte and Adam met at work in London (3) Charlotte is a member of STG Brides Club!

CHARLOTTE AND ADAM

How we met

Adam, the groom to be, and I met in October 2014 when I was working in London. Things had been a little chaotic and my manager at the time recruited an advisor to come and provide support to the company on a temporary basis. One day my manager came to me and said, “I bought you a present”. Me being me (who loves a present!) got incredibly excited only to find out it was a person, the advisor.

Filled with utter disappointment I wasn’t bought a present I met this man, Adam. Aim of the day was to get to know the business so; he rolled up his sleeves and helped me work. While I was handling various issues Adam questioned me on my plans for the weekend, telling me he had to travel back to Southampton ready for a blind date. Later I would find out this was his poor effort to determine if I was single.

While I continued to work he found a post-it note, wrote his number on it, gave it to me and left! Adam effectively being my boss made me unsure so after many coffee dates and waffles with best friend Natalie (and bridesmaid to be!) I text him on January 14th 2015!

Real Jewish Brides: Introducing Maggie + Danny: How They Met To The Present Day…

09/04/2020 by Smashing The Glass

Today on the blog we’re introducing our latest gorgeous crop of 2020 / 2021 Real Jewish Brides! Please give a warm welcome to Maggie, who will be marrying Danny on 6th June 2021 at Stone House of St. Charles in St. Charles, Missouri.

THREE FACTS: (1) Danny proposed to Maggie on his birthday! (2) Maggie is in the process of converting to Judaism (3) Maggie is a member of STG Brides Club!

Blogging Bride Maggie and Danny

How We Met

Well this is your traditional love story, one that your parents could have potentially told. Mine is like my aunt’s, who constantly told me “you will find him when you least expect it.” She met her husband through his sister who she worked with. My fiancé hates how I tell the story of our meeting (no, just a few of the details – the fiancé).

The year is 2018, the month is August. I had decided to move back closer to my family in St. Louis, Missouri in July of 2018. Danny moved to St. Louis earlier in the week we met. The weekend before, I had gone on a trip with my friends from high school. On the way back my friend Abby tells me the next weekend she and her husband planned a trip to a local winery with one of her husband’s friends from work. I agreed to go in hopes of making new friends. Danny was staying with this friend,  the friend invited Danny very last minute. Danny decided to go since he didn’t have anything else to do that day.

We go to lunch where I meet him briefly but don’t pay attention since there are 12 of us and we are at opposite ends of the table. Lunch is finally over, and we all begin to talk. He states that he just moved which is what caught my attention. We discover that we each studied math in college (meanwhile he is an engineer now and I am a hotel manager, not so useful for me) as well as comparing how long we had lived in St. Louis.

He of course mentions right away about his adorable 7-month-old niece who he tried to kidnap when he was moving. At one point I remember texting my friend Abby saying how Danny was my type. The whole day I constantly try to stay close to him and flirt with him. Finally, we got to the wine tasting section where we shared a table and even shared each other’s drinks! I knew I wanted to date him after I made a mention of my favorite movie The Princess Bride and he stared to quote the movie with me.

The day ends and he doesn’t even ask me for my number. As we were walking out my friend Kayla and her husband Cameron teased me about how close we were, I mentioned my disappointment with him not asking for my number. That’s when Cameron mentioned he had gotten Danny’s number. For the first time in my life I got the courage to tell him to send my number to Danny. Well he did and 30 seconds later I receive my first message from Danny.

Now Danny loves to argue that he knew I was flirting with him but did not want to ask for my number as he had made friends with my friend’s husbands (yep, I didn’t want to be creepy – the fiancé again). Either way we connected and had our first date on August 21, 2018.  We went to dinner and then got edible cookie dough, we then sat outside the cookie dough place and talked for hours, past when the place closed.

It was a 6-hour date, our second date was 8 hours and our third was 7 hours. I remember coming home after our first date and freaking out to my dad about how I really liked this guy but was hesitant to continue dating him because he was Jewish.

Coronavirus In Our Lives

It’s hard at the moment for the coronavirus not to be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. You get on the train and you grab a Metro and it’s on the first page in bold. You look at your phone first thing in the morning and BBC news pops up with the latest figures.

You check your Instagram and someone’s talking about it, Facebook it’s the same. We catch up with friends, we talk to colleagues and we find ourselves slowly broaching the subject, how are they feeling about it. I am guilty of refreshing BBC news every half an hour or so to find the latest information. Yet the more I look, the more I know, the more I feel in control of the situation but the more I know the more I realise it is.

Now this post is not about the coronavirus, it’s really about what we can do to take a step away from all of the news and to find a mindfulness moment, a moment away from the stress of the news and a moment to breathe.

When you plan a wedding you always expect there to be bumps along the way, such as family dilemmas, issues with the band, the logistics of an abroad wedding, and so on. What you don’t plan for is a worldwide pandemic three months before you are meant to say “I do”!

The Coronavirus has become a talking point like no other. It is the only thing that people want to talk about, and when it is mentioned in the same sentence as your wedding then it is never a good scenario!

I started off a little anxious about it but then I decided to be positive because it is out of my control and I can’t worry about something which I cannot control. However, that is all well and good until you have people calling you and asking you what your contingency plan is and if you are going to postpone the wedding!

Real Jewish Brides: Alexandra About Getting Married In The Time Of Coronavirus

11/03/2020 by Smashing The Glass

Alexandra will be marrying Ian on 10th May 2020 at La Corte Dei Messapi in Ostuni, Puglia, Italy. Click here to read all Alexandra’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: THREE FACTS: (1) Alexandra and Ian are planning an intimate black-tie destination wedding for 60 of their nearest and dearest in Puglia, Italy. (2) Alexandra is Jewish, and Ian is in the process of converting to Judaism. (3) Alexandra is a member of Smashing The Glass’s Brides Club!

Planning a wedding is always stressful. You never know what is going to happen between when you put down the deposit and the actual event. Sometimes there are unexpected pandemics in the country where your wedding is being held.

When I first heard about COVID-19 or as it is colloquially known Corona Virus, I was concerned like most people, but I never thought it would affect our wedding. We had already received all of our wedding clothing which seemed to be an issue that most people were encountering, with many dresses being manufactured in China.

We never thought that where we were getting married would cause any issues. As I have admitted multiple times in this process: I was wrong. When the first reported case of COVID-19 was reported in Italy, we and some of our guests got a bit nervous.
