Real Jewish Brides: Orli On Finding A Moment Of Peace Amongst The Crazy

25/03/2020 by Smashing The Glass

Orli will be marrying Ben on 6th September 2020 at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London, UK. Click here to read all Orli’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Orli and Ben met on Jswipe. (2) Although their venue, the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, couldn’t be more quintessentially London, Orli and Ben are going for a countryside feel. (3) Orli is a member of Smashing The Glass’s Brides Club!

Coronavirus In Our Lives

It’s hard at the moment for the coronavirus not to be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. You get on the train and you grab a Metro and it’s on the first page in bold. You look at your phone first thing in the morning and BBC news pops up with the latest figures.

You check your Instagram and someone’s talking about it, Facebook it’s the same. We catch up with friends, we talk to colleagues and we find ourselves slowly broaching the subject, how are they feeling about it. I am guilty of refreshing BBC news every half an hour or so to find the latest information. Yet the more I look, the more I know, the more I feel in control of the situation but the more I know the more I realise it is.

Now this post is not about the coronavirus, it’s really about what we can do to take a step away from all of the news and to find a mindfulness moment, a moment away from the stress of the news and a moment to breathe.

Planning Our Wedding In This Crazy Situation

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, trying to take onboard everyone’s opinion and trying to stay true to Ben and myself. I’ve dreamt about the planning stages and trying to make the most out of it. I had always hoped and anticipated that the year building up to our wedding would be magical. But in reality there are stresses that you cannot avoid.

So this is where yoga and mindfulness comes in. This is what I have been focusing on and will continue to focus on as I do all that I can to make it the most special day for us.

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

As life has got busier there are more yoga studios, meditation studios, apps, YouTube videos, podcasts where you are able to follow guided meditation practices to allow you that peace. Over the past week, as the news has been getting more real and more scary especially with flights now being cancelled, I have certainly noticed a difference before and after my practice.

Not Just Yoga and Medition

If yoga and meditation is not for you, then it’s really about finding out what silences the noise and gives you peace. Reading a book, taking a walk, going for a coffee with friends, having a facial (or heading to face gym for a facial workout).

In a world where we are surrounded by the media and where we are so contactable, it’s nice to take a moment and step away from it all. Start small and turn off your phone and go outside for an hour and see how you feel. Notice if any of the anxiety and stress melts away.

Some of my favourite yoga studios:

  1. Another space
  2. Yoga loft
  3. Fly LDN
  4. Yogi Yoga
  5. Re:mind studio
  6. Heartcore studio

There are also a number of wonderful online yoga videos on YouTube, and I recommend:

  1. Yoga with Adrienne
  2. Yoga with Cassandra
  3. Yoga with Cat

Have a wonderful day, and see if you can take a moment to breathe. Catch you at my next post!
