An Eliza Jane Howell Bride for an Ecofriendly Orthodox Feminist Jewish Wedding at The Brewery, London, UK

26/04/2019 by Karen Cinnamon

We love it when a couple gives their values a starring role in their Jewish wedding. And Miriam, an environmental consultant in the water sector, and Lazarus, an intellectual property manager for a green hydrogen start up, did exactly that for their beautiful big day at beloved Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor The Brewery.

Unsurprisingly, sustainability is a big deal to these two – and they followed through on that value by using e-vites instead of paper, a mix of fake flowers along with fresh to reduce waste, and gave out wildflower seed favours for guests to plant to help save the bees.

We also love how Miriam and Lazarus worked with their rabbi to incorporate some feminist touches into their Orthodox ceremony – like having Miriam say a line back to Lazarus after he gave her the ring, and having female guests reading the Sheva Brachot in English as well as the men saying them in Hebrew.

Even cooler is the way they went about making sure all of their guests, Jewish and non-Jewish, felt involved in the wedding: Miriam and Lazarus went a step further than an explanatory order of service on the day, instead opting to send theirs out to guests in advance – along with FAQs about Jewish weddings and videos and music clips to prepare everyone for the dancing!

We love how Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Michael Lee’s photography captured all the fun, energy, and bold colours of the day – and he came up with some awesome ideas for creative shots.

Now over to the bride, who looked simply stunning in her vintage-inspired Eliza Jane Howell dress (not to mention that epic flower crown!)…

How My Wedding Will Be Without My Dad

18/04/2019 by Smashing The Glass

Mimi will be marrying Andrew on 7th July 2019 at Hazel Gap Barn in Welbeck, Nottinghamshire, UK. Click here to read all Mimi’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: THREE FACTS: (1) Mimi and Andrew met online in 2013. (2) Mimi is a flight attendant and writes her own travel and beauty blog on the side (3) Andrew proposed to Mimi, who at the time was nearing the completion of her conversion to Judaism, at the top of Masada – wow!

My Big Day Without You

Celebrating an exciting time in your life is always bittersweet when it’s peppered with the reality of one of your favourite and most loved people not being here – weather it’s a grandparent, a friend, or in my case, my father.

After losing my dad, I remember vividly imagining future key parts of my life and wondering how I would get through them without him. A huge part of the grieving process was the reality of imagining future life situations where my dad would be missed more than ever. My future wedding day was one of them. I was desperately sad that I’d missed the opportunity to have my father walk me down the aisle, and even more so that he wouldn’t actually meet my future husband or share in the journey with me.

A Pronovias Bride for a Jewish Wedding with a Wisteria Chuppah at The Midland Hotel, Manchester, UK

15/04/2019 by Karen Cinnamon

Jewish wedding The Midland Hotel Manchester UK_0034
Two words: Wisteria. Chuppah. Katie and Josh’s botanical canopy is truly breathtaking – between the abundant greenery, hanging wisteria, and bunches of red berries, they created the perfect autumnal fantasia. The bride reports that she felt like she was in a botanical garden standing under the chuppah, and we can totally see why!

We also LOVE a creative idea that we’ve never seen before! A deck of Top Trumps cards at every place setting, that told the story of Katie and Josh’s engagement from proposal to tying the knot. LOVE!

And everything about this beautiful Jewish wedding is just so exquisitely elegant, and Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Rob Clayton could not have done a better job capturing all the lovely details – not to mention the emotion and love that radiates through every single shot! The couple picked Rob especially for his ability to capture the natural, spontaneous moments that make a wedding truly memorable, and they definitely made an awesome choice!

Katie – who looked so elegant in her two bodice-and-skirt pairings from Pronovias – will take it from here…

How we met

Katie, the bride: Josh and I met on J-Swipe within 3 weeks of me moving to London… the epitome of modern day romance. We planned a date for the following week, but coincidentally bumped in to each other in a bar in central London a few days before our planned date – it was beshert (and made the ‘first date’ a lot less nerve-racking)!

A David’s Bridal Bride for a Jewish Wedding with a Mega-Meaningful Chuppah at Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, California, USA

29/03/2019 by Karen Cinnamon

When the bride is a wedding planner, you know you’re in for something good. And Courtney and Saul’s gorgeous California Jewish wedding does not disappoint – seriously, don’t miss the gorgeous shots by Michelle Scolman of Vivienne Tyler Photography!

This wedding is chock full of fun creative ideas, from a build-your-own ice cream sandwich bar (1) to a sweet photo guestbook, where guests added notes to polaroids they took themselves before sticking them in the book for safekeeping.

But our very favorite thing about it is the very special chuppah Courtney, who runs her own event planning business in addition to working in marketing at a university, and Saul, in IT consulting, were married beneath.

When the couple couldn’t find the kind of chuppah they envisioned to rent, the bride’s grandfather offered to build a custom version just for them. Sadly, he passed away during their engagement, but Courtney’s father stepped in to finish the job – in her grandfather’s workshop. What a beautiful way to honor a special loved one, right?! Even better is that after the wedding, the pair donated the chuppah to their synagogue to share the love with future couples – awwww!

Now over to the bride, who looked so beautiful in her gown from David’s Bridal…

Real Jewish Brides: Jaime Has Finally Got Engaged!

07/03/2019 by Smashing The Glass

Jaime will be marrying Varun on 26th October 2019 at Hummingbird Nest Ranch, California, USA. Click here to read all Jaime’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Jaime and Varun will be having a Jewish ceremony AND a Hindu ceremony – on the same day! (2) They’re planning a swanky but not stuffy wedding at one of our fave California venues, Hummingbird Nest Ranch! (3) Jaime is a member of Smashing The Glass’s Brides Club!

So much has happened since the last time I blogged and I cannot wait to share it with you guys!

In December Varun and I went to California for the holidays and to spend time with family. Our first stop was LA where we had a chance to relax and restore. We also had both sides of parents meet in Los Angeles where we could take them to see our wedding venue and meet our awesome wedding planner Jenny!

We then headed to San Francisco to spend time at Varun’s parents’ house before leaving for Hawaii for a little R&R.
