A Lazaro Bride for a Family Focused British-American Jewish Wedding at the Groom’s Childhood Home, Bethesda, Maryland, USA

12/06/2020 by Karen Cinnamon

We love it when a couple makes family the center of their Jewish wedding. And that’s exactly what Melanie and Benjamin did, starting with their choice to hold their intimate celebration at the groom’s childhood home. If we had a backyard like this to get married in, we’re pretty sure it would be our choice too – don’t miss the incredible photos of the outdoor sunset chuppah from Stefanie Kamerman Photography.

Family members near and far pitched in to help make the day a success – Benjamin’s sister Jessica even planned the wedding! – and we love the way the pair brought in British elements to honor the bride’s English background, from the flowers to the marmalade favors to the vintage English blue-and-white China.

Most special of all, though, is that the groom’s father, who was diagnosed with cancer just after Melanie and Benjamin got engaged, successfully completed treatment exactly one month prior to the big day, so the day served as a double celebration.

Now over to the bride, who looked ravishing in Lazaro Bridal (speaking of which, don’t miss her wild dress fitting story!)…

How we met

Melanie, the bride: We met on Tinder. When I first got on the app – the app didn’t work correctly. I entered the age range for men I was interested in as 30 and above – he was 28 at the time. Lucky for Benjamin, the age range I entered didn’t go into effect immediately and his profile popped up for me to swipe on. He was too cute to not swipe right on and it was a match!

I immediately freaked out and messaged Benjamin saying I swiped because I thought he was an absolute doll face but he was too young for me. Luckily Benjamin is very persistent and did not let this get in the way. He proceeded to ask me on lots of different dates which I declined because of our age difference. He decided to change up his strategy and started name dropping different restaurants. He dropped the name of a swanky jazz restaurant I had been dying to try – the rest is history.

A Lazaro bride for a Hollywood-glam Jewish wedding at a private residence in Los Angeles, California, USA

29/03/2016 by Karen

Lazaro-Bride-Los-Angeles-Jewish-Wedding
Every inch of this Los Angeles wedding is oozing old Hollywood style glamour from the private residence near Malibu where it was held (that only hosts one wedding per year!) to the bride’s incredible one-of-a-kind Lazaro gown.

Positioned on a top of a cliff, with breathtaking views across the beach and the Pacific Ocean, the residence is normally used for filming and photo shoots (I’m talking Rihanna’s cover shoot for Vogue no less) and it’s impossible to imagine a more beautiful or romantic setting for a wedding. The ceremony took place on the beach right by the shore, under a stunning chuppah and one thing’s for sure, if you’re planning a romantic, dreamy beach-y wedding, this post will be taking over your entire Pinterest planning board!

Unusually for a Jewish wedding, the whole event took place on a Saturday, so the ceremony had to take place after sunset. This meant for a an unconventional order of events, with the cocktail reception happening prior to the ceremony. As I always say on Smashing The Glass, it’s your wedding, do it your way — Ali and Duncan certainly did…

Everything about this W Day brings a modern twist to old Hollywood glamour and Marianne Taylor‘s photography captures it all brilliantly — some of these shots could be taken from a glossy magazine! I know you’re going to adore the decor with an abundance of candles everywhere and pretty accents of soft whites, metallics and copper thrown in for good measure…

Without further ado, I give you Ali and Duncan.

Choosing to get married in Los Angeles by the ocean…

Ali, the Bride: We chose to get married in a private home in the Huntington Palisades in Santa Monica because what is a California wedding if you are not near the ocean! We chose this house because we felt it was the quintessential Los Angeles wedding venue. We wanted to be married on or over looking the ocean and this house gave us that old Hollywood feel while also being on the water.

A lavish destination Jewish wedding at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Miami, Florida, USA

03/11/2015 by Karen

Oh. My. Word. What a magical chuppah that is. Not only do the intertwined branches topped with hydrangeas, roses, and orchids look thoroughly mesmerising, but the candles within the glass spheres create such a romantic, fairytale feel too.

And there’s a meaning to it all as well… Because three of the bride and groom’s grandparents sadly passed away, they honoured them by hanging not one but three tallits (prayer shawls) within the chuppah structure. I absolutely love it when couples incorporate personal details into their chuppah and this is such a beautiful and symbolic idea.

Lemor and Adam married at the super luxe Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami, Florida, and their big day is every bit as enchanting and classy as you’d expect. From Lemor’s dress of dreams (a vision of sophisticated yet delicate Lazaro  frills embellished with crystals and finished off with a cathedral length veil) to her shimmery Jimmy Choo‘s, to her glamorous ombre bridesmaids, and the seamless melding of Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Persian, Israeli, and American traditions throughout the day. Enjoy all the wonderful details and get ready to swoon!

Lemor and Adam — thank you for having such an à¼ber stylish  wedding and thank you Maloman Studios for capturing it so wonderfully and submitting it to Smashing The Glass.

how we met

Lemor, the Bride: We met at a charity fundraiser for Israel that I serve on the board for. I walked up to a friend to say hello and he was talking to Adam, who he then introduced me to. We saw each other the next night at another event for the charity, and the rest is history!
