Dana and Stuart’s wedding has Autumn completely wrapped up. Long farm tables with flowers and candles, orange and cream colours with pops of russet inspired by Dana’s amazing auburn hair, and a total sense of joy, warmth and tenderness thoughout.
Our bride is so very elegant but at the same time clearly having the time of her life… That smile – it’s so infectious! And what’s one of my favourite moments? When Dana swaps her jewelled Manolo Blahniks for white low top Converse when the former falls off during the Hora – so down to earth! I also love the little creative details like classic movies of their favourite Hollywood icons playing in the background during the cocktail hour.
Oh… and have you ever heard of ‘Dudesmaids’?! Dana had two – see them posing with the girls above?!
All the fantastic photography is by the one and only Karen Wise.
A LOWER EAST SIDE VENUE, A RUSTIC THEME AND AUTUMN COLOURS
Dana, the Bride: We got married at the breathtaking Angel Orensanz Foundation. It was love at first sight, and actually the only venue we looked at!
We went for a burnt orange and cream colour scheme with long farm tables and lots of candles. Pops of russet (inspired by my hair colour!) were used throughout the wedding including our flowers and invitations, and in fact for the invitation design we had a Moroccan print on the reverse of our invite in burnt orange/gold.
THE DRESS
I bought my dress from Gabriella Bridal and the designer was Ulla-Maija, it was actually the first one I tried on after having explained that we just wanted a cool and fun Lower East Side wedding the consultant totally got my speed. Most important of all, it was danceable.
JEWELLERY
I wore pearl & diamond earrings given to me by my new in laws. Absolutely classic and perfect for the dress
SHOES
I wore jewelled Manolo Blahniks for the ceremony but during the Hora when one fell off I quickly changed into white low top Converse.
HAIR
Paige from Jill Ferrer salon helped pick the style and I went for a pretty classic half up half down
BRIDESMAIDS
I had seven bridesmaids altogether and they wore their own dresses in black. It was really important to me that they all felt great and ready to party. We also had two dudesmaids who wore tuxes 🙂
CHUPPAH DESIGN
we had both our grandfather tallits hanging on the chuppah, and went for a simple and elegant with lots of candles.
MUSIC FOR THE CEREMONY
I walked into David Broza’s “Mitachat La’shamaim” (Under the sky). It’s one of my favourite songs and later in the night Stuart’s sister surprised us by serenading us with the same song.
COCKTAIL HOUR
We had our favourite movies projected onto a big screen during the cocktail hour. With my love of Audrey Hepburn, and Stuart’s love of Steve McQueen. we had Breakfast at Tiffany’s for me and Bullit for Stuart.
PHOTOGRAPHER
We adored our photographer, Karen Wise. We felt like she got us and would capture all the fun moments throughout the day without being too intrusive. Clearly we made a wise choice!
DESSERTS
We didn’t have a formal wedding cake – we just went for lots of yummy desserts, mini ice cream cones, bourbon soaked pastries and lots of others.
ENTERTAINMENT
Jerry Kravat provided all the music for the night including a cool 5 piece set at cocktail hour and an Israeli DJ. Manhattan Rhythm Machine was our band. The team at Jerry Karvit really listened to my husband who is a real music buff and were willing to learn and try some new things. Additionally we wanted to dance, dance, dance so it was important not to have too many of those elevator music intermissions. they timed their sets perfectly and managed to play some unbelievable songs even during down times.
BOURBON BAR
As my husband is a huge bourbon fan, we set up a variety of boutique bourbons for guests to taste at their leisure.
ADVICE TO OTHER BRIDES
