Wedding Photography with an Edge: An Engagement Shoot with LUZ

18/10/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

Back in April, we ran an Instagram competition to win an engagement shoot with one of the very best cutting-edge wedding photographers in the business, LUZ Weddings. Joelle and Jason were the lucky winners of our competition, and we are totally OBSESSED with the results of their fantastic shoot (which ended up taking place post-wedding due to scheduling, hence the bridal attire!).

Shooting around Stratford, London, photographer Shay from LUZ found the absolute coolest backdrops to make these photos really pop — bride Joelle says these images look like artwork rather than just your standard engagement pics, and we could not agree more.

LUZ are based in Tel Aviv and regularly work all across Israel as well as in the UK. If you’re looking for something a little different for your wedding photography, we could not recommend them more strongly. Their architectural inspiration and artsy aesthetic make for truly one-of-a kind photos, unlike any we’ve seen before.

Now for a few words from the lovely Joelle about what it was like making this fab shoot happen…

Celebrating 15 years of David Pullum, One Of The World’s Best Wedding Photographers (and a special gift for all Smashing The Glass readers)

07/06/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

We are extremely honoured to be celebrating a truly talented and wonderful photographer today — the amazing David Pullum.  Not only is it his birthday (Happy Birthday David!) it is also the anniversary of his 15 years working in wedding photography.

Voted one of the best 50 photographers in the UK in 2018, David Pullum is one of the most visually engaging photographers we know – he has an unbelievable skill of capturing emotion and his timeless style create memories the couple, the bridal party, and their friends and family will truly treasure forever.

We come across thousands of photographers here at Smashing The Glass, but David is definitely one of our all time favourites — he is utterly outstanding.

We adore having David as part of our Smashing family and today we want to make it all about him – congratulations David, 15 years in the wedding industry is a remarkable achievement!

Before we let David tell  us more about his wedding photography experience so far, we are beyond 15 year excited to let you know that to celebrate this fantastic milestone David is offering off 15% of his wedding package for all Smashing Glass readers!! HAPPY DAYS!

Now David, over to you…

Where did it all begin?

In 2003 the company I was working for decided to move most, if not all of its staff to Bangalore. Having left school with very few qualifications and have spent most of my working career in a trading room, the options were fairly limited. A good friend of mine at the time had just taken up wedding photography and so I signed up for the same course as he had done and by the end of that year I had my first wedding booking. Facebook Live Catch Up: Wedding Photography with Blake Ezra

25/02/2017 by Karen

Blake-Ezra-Karen-Cinnamon-Smashing-The-Glass
On Wednesday, I went ‘Facebook Live’ alongside my much-loved Smashing Supplier, Blake Ezra, for the second episode of our exciting new monthly show especially for the STG worldwide community.

This month it was a ‘Wedding Photography’ special and you all LOVED it!  We answered so many great questions including why photographers vary so much in price, how to go about choosing a wedding photographer, the most stand-out moment of Blake’s photography career (and no it wasn’t Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding that he also photographed), and of course his EPIC beard.

If you missed it, you can still catch up by watching the replay below. Blake was second to none and handed out so much useful advice and photography nuggets you’d be mad not to watch it (again and again!) and catch every last word. We also revealed a BIG exclusive towards the end.

We planned to be live for around 30 minutes but we max-ed out to just over an hour, and even then we couldn’t get through all your brilliant questions. Thank you for being such a fabulous audience — Blake has promised to answer any unanswered questions in the comments section of the video, plus we have a second instalment up our sleeve! Watch this space…

This was the second in a monthly episode of STG shows that will be aired live on the last Wednesday of every month on Facebook at 8pm GMT(that’s 3pm EST, 12pm PST, and 10pm in Israel) to coincide with #WeddingWednesday.

Next month’s show is going out on Wednesday 29th March 2017, and I’ll be joined by one of the best make up artists in the industry, the gorgeous Philippa Louise, for a ‘Wedding Beauty Q&A’ live show. More details nearer the time… Happy Weekend everyone!

“My best Jewish wedding photo” by Rhapsody Road

12/06/2016 by Karen

A weekly series where  I ask some of the world’s best wedding photographers to pick out their favourite shot from their Jewish wedding portfolio. This week it’s the turn of Em from  Rhapsody Road Photography.

‘Elation by Rhapsody Road Photography

Look at all these faces, all these joyful expressions! Aren’t they wonderful? Look at the bride, Jemma. She’s emotional, she’s both tired and wide awake, she’s so bloomin’ happy! Don’t you just want to jump up and dance, to wave your arms around and feel the same? That’s what I think every time I look at this image. I remember each and every person in that room, each friend and family member there to share this huge day, to offer their support to the commitment of love and friendship that Jemma & John have just made. What an amazing moment. Thank you Jemma & John for sharing it with me.“

“My best Jewish wedding photo” by Rob Clayton

‘The Scene’ by Rob Clayton

Deborah and Eden embrace the quirkier side of life. So when I received an email post-wedding, asking if we could go out again for a ‘trash-the-dress’ style shoot (without actually trashing her exquisite dress), my imagination went into over-drive. I made grand plans, even purchased some props at my own expense, and waited for the perfect evening.

When that evening came, we drove for almost an hour to the location (which shall remain a secret for now I’m afraid!), only to be turned away at the door by security. We had known this was a possibility, and had chanced it anyway, but were disappointed nonetheless. However, the evening still had about 10-minutes of sunlight left, so we decided to at least take advantage of that, rather than have completely wasted the journey. I was lucky to find this scene (I had to move my car, and found this on my way back from the car park), and was immediately taken by its beauty. Five minutes later, we were done. As for the secret location, I have not given up hope of a shoot there with Deborah and Eden (it’d really be worth it!)”
