2018/19 Real Jewish Brides: Introducing Rebecca + Danny: How They Met To The Present Day…

04/09/2018 by Smashing The Glass

Today on the blog we’re introducing our 8th gorgeous bride from our crop of 2018 and 2019 Real Jewish Brides! Please give a warm welcome to Rebecca who will be marrying Danny on 1st September 2019 in London, UK.

THREE FACTS: (1) Rebecca and Danny met on JSwipe (2) Rebecca is a Senior Event Planner at Food Story (who just so happen to be our favorite kosher caterers!) and plans other people’s weddings for a living (3) Rebecca and Danny are planning a “Marbella meets Tuscany” themed wedding in the heart of London!

How We Met

Danny and I met in May 2014. Just when I was about to give up on J-Swipe, I noticed Danny had lots of friends in common with me so I swiped right. Fortunately, Danny recognised some of the people in my profile pictures. We are both short and Danny figured that out before meeting me, which is initially why he swiped right for me!

Our first date we played crazy golf, we spent the entire course speaking about our favourite sandwiches and crisps — I knew then he made me feel comfortable and I could completely be myself around him.

For the next few months we continued dating. We are both children at heart and so we spent time together at zoo’s, rowing boats, seeing shows and enjoying our real passion together — food! Once we had introduced each other to our friends, we started doing lots of escape rooms, which we both love.

A Lucy Can’t Dance Bride for a ‘Kosher Braveheart Does Glastonbury’ Jewish-Scottish Wedding at the Fox and Hounds, Great Moulton, UK

03/09/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

We’ve got two words for you: Wisteria. Chuppah. Just look at it! Have you ever seen anything more lovely than those simple strands of purple and white perfection swinging gently in the breeze, captured to perfection by photographer Katy Treadwell?! Because we’re pretty sure we haven’t.

Sophie, a property photographer for an estate agent, and Andy, a web designer, totally rocked their “Kosher Braveheart Does Glastonbury” Jew-ish wedding style (seriously, have you heard of a better theme?!). Between Sophie’s swoonworthy bridal ensemble–consisting of a boho-perfect Lucy Can’t Dance two-piece, flower crown, and green and blue ombre cathedral veil (that the bride dyed herself!)–that knockout chuppah, and their awesome festival-inspired wedding cake with THE coolest hidden back (seriously, do NOT miss this one!), this is one wedding we’re seriously sad not to have attended.

Oh, and you know how much we love it when couples let us know they’ve used Smashing the Glass to plan their big day. Well, not only did Sophie and Andy draw inspiration from the blog in planning their beautiful boho English-Scottish-Jew-ish wedding–Sophie reports that our Real Blogging Brides and 5 Minutes With sections–were especially helpful, they even used one of our very own Smash Glass pouches for under the chuppah.

We love love LOVE seeing our smash glass pouches in our Jewish wedding features so make sure you buy one and send us your pictures just like gorgeous Sophie did! So now over to the bride herself…

How we met

Sophie, the bride: We’d been friends for around 6 years before we started dating, and it only took him another 6 before he popped the question! But we wouldn’t have it any other way, and I feel like the luckiest lady in the world that I got to get married to her best friend!

An Ultra-Stylish Modern English Garden Party Jewish Wedding at Bayit Al Ha’Yam, Jaffa, Israel

31/08/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

Jewish Wedding Bait Al Ha'yam Jaffa Israel
We love it when we come across a couple who’ve clearly got their own sense of style down pat. Super cool bride Lior and groom Toby, both of whom work in TV and film, describe their Jewish wedding aesthetic as “English garden party with a touch of modernity,” and did they ever pull it off!

Think sweet pastel florals in of-the-moment geometric plant stands (in rose gold, natch). Mama Photographers captured it all SO beautifully. (Not to mention their stunning venue, with views of the entire Tel Aviv coastline! Color us just a teensy bit jealous.)

And as if there wasn’t enough going on in the style department already, Lior’s dress–custom made by  Hazan Zukerman–took the bride’s mother’s wedding gown as inspiration and added some serious boho flair to the ’80s vintage charm for an ultra-unique look that’s of the moment and classic all at once.

Oh, and make sure you check out Lior and Toby’s awesome signature cocktails. We’ll take a Petal’s Treat (named after the couple’s dog!!) on the rocks, please!

A Seaside Venue

Lior, the bride: We got married at Bayit Al Ha’Yam (House on Sea) in Jaffa, with the chuppah at dusk.

We picked the venue because it overlooks the whole coastline of Tel Aviv and the style of the venue (elegant and intimate) fit with our vision.

A Sincerity Bridal Bride for a Mountain Top Jew-ish Wedding at Kachina Basin, Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico, USA

29/08/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

Jewish Wedding at 11,420 feet on the top of a mountain (Kachina Basin) in Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico USA_0008
Yes, you read that right: today’s couple, Tema and Brad, really did hold their Jew-ish wedding on top of an actual mountain at 11,420 (!) feet. How high is that exactly, those of you from flatter locales may be wondering? So high, guests could only attend via chairlift, that’s how high!

The couple’s whimsical boho wedding style was the perfect fit for their mountaintop surroundings — rustic enough to work for the extreme location, simple and sweet enough not to distract from the natural grandeur of the surroundings.

Tema, who provides sustainability consulting services to commercial real estate owners, and Brad, a business analyst, had the sweetest birch chuppah, keeping it simple with just a touch of floral dà©cor draped over the top and Tema’s mother’s wedding veil as the canopy (aww!) — this is a great example of how you can pull off a beautiful floral chuppah while keeping things subtle!

And the couple’s delightful ketubah from Smashing the Glass Recommended Vendor Tallulah Ketubahs, adorned with whimsical watercolor succulents, is so on point we just cannot even. Have you seen a sweeter ketubah?

Rockstar photographers Shaun and Shannon Menary got THE most stunning captures of the day, from Tema’s fab boho bridal style — did she rock that Sincerity Bridal dress + flower crown combo, or what? — to the majestic mountaintop views.

Oh, and did we mention Tema and Brad have one of the cutest how-they-met stories of all time? Prepare to be charmed…

How We Met

Tema, the bride: The story of how we met is very unusual and funny. We both had our cars towed and met at the impound lot picking up our cars! We stood in line for 3 hours and Brad was there with his dad.

THREE FACTS: Jay and Tom met on Tinder (Tinder For The Win!) (2) These two are planning a big fat Jew-ish wedding (Jay is Jewish, Tom is not) but in Jay’s words: “Tom was brought up in Edgware and has more of a love for chopped liver and bagels than I do!” (3) Jay is a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor and Tom works at Facebook.

Enjoying Our Friends’ Weddings

Wedding life is all starting to feel very real now! We’ve had a very busy few months celebrating our friends’ weddings, both in the UK and abroad (but this has also allowed us to steal a few cheeky ideas and get lots of inspiration for our own wedding!).

Although each wedding has been completely different (and ours too being different from theirs) it is so nice sharing all these special times together!

We went to our last wedding of the summer last weekend, and my fiancà© and I sat down at the end of the evening just observing the night and had a little moment of ‘oh my gosh, we are next!’ – the realisation kicked in and made it all the more exciting.

I had taken a little pause with wedding planning over the summer as I got myself quite organised before this time and wanted to relax and enjoy the fun over the summer. But now as we head into the start of September the countdown is on and wedding planning is back in action!Continue ReadingContinue Reading
