Today on the blog we’re introducing our 8th gorgeous bride from our crop of 2018 and 2019 Real Jewish Brides! Please give a warm welcome to Rebecca who will be marrying Danny on 1st September 2019 in London, UK.
THREE FACTS: (1) Rebecca and Danny met on JSwipe (2) Rebecca is a Senior Event Planner at Food Story (who just so happen to be our favorite kosher caterers!) and plans other people’s weddings for a living (3) Rebecca and Danny are planning a “Marbella meets Tuscany” themed wedding in the heart of London!
How We Met
Danny and I met in May 2014. Just when I was about to give up on J-Swipe, I noticed Danny had lots of friends in common with me so I swiped right. Fortunately, Danny recognised some of the people in my profile pictures. We are both short and Danny figured that out before meeting me, which is initially why he swiped right for me!
Our first date we played crazy golf, we spent the entire course speaking about our favourite sandwiches and crisps — I knew then he made me feel comfortable and I could completely be myself around him.
For the next few months we continued dating. We are both children at heart and so we spent time together at zoo’s, rowing boats, seeing shows and enjoying our real passion together — food! Once we had introduced each other to our friends, we started doing lots of escape rooms, which we both love.
The Proposal
Four years later, Thursday, 10 May 2018 (my birthday) Danny made almost no effort to celebrate. When he left for work I called my mum and was really upset with him that after four years he didn’t know me at all and I couldn’t understand why he didn’t make any effort. In the lead up to my birthday, Danny kept on telling me we are going to celebrate on the Friday as we both managed to get the day off, but at this point I was so upset nothing mattered.
Friday, 11 May 2018 I woke up and decided to give him a second chance and pretend that today was my birthday. As mentioned above, we share a love of escape rooms and had partaken in many with friends, I casually suggested a few months before that we should try one just the two of us to see if we are any good. Little did I know that this passing comment planted a seed in his head and the planning began there.
We headed off into Bank, one of my favourite places in London. Danny had booked the ‘Bank Heist’ at Escape Entertainment. The theme was to rob the crown jewels from the bank in 60 minutes. On the way there we were strategizing and working out how to work together. We were doing well, working our way through the puzzles and solving the clues.
In the last part of the game, I noticed some footprints on the floor, I realised we had to stand on these to free the crown jewels which were locked under a magnetic cage. By standing on the footprints it released the magnet and the cage clicked open.
Initially in the excitement and thrill of the game I think Danny had forgotten what he had been planning so meticulously and was about to push it open, when he remembered he stepped back and it clicked shut again. We did it again and this time I pushed open the cage and inside was a card with my name on it.
I was a bit taken back and asked, “how do they know my name?”, I think deep down I knew what was coming but I didn’t want to be disappointed. Danny told me to open it and when I did, there was a card with a quote that we used to say to one another before we were ready to say, “I love you”. Inside the card Danny had written everything he wanted to say to me, but knew he wouldn’t have gotten the words out. Out of the corner of my eye, I could now see Danny on one knee.
It took me a while to look at him, I was crying and hysterically laughing (nerves) and eventually Danny took my hand and said, “will you marry me”. I couldn’t answer for a while and I remember Danny asking a few times before I said “OBVIOUSLY”.
Danny then thought it would be fun if we finished the escape room, but I just wanted to get out and enjoy the moment together.
We headed to The Ned for lunch and cocktails. We were both so excited and couldn’t wait to start calling all our family and friends. I have a very big family so it took a while, but each individual reaction was amazing and we were on cloud 9.
Before we got engaged, I wasn’t fussed with being married or not I just knew that Danny and I loved each other and we were planning our lives and future together. Once Danny proposed and he had put the ring on my finger, it felt like a constant reminder that he loves me and I still feel that now whenever I look at my ring.
Danny also said as soon as he called me his fiancà©e, he felt a huge responsibility to take care of me and make me happy.
A “Marbella meets Tuscany” wedding
We will be getting married on Sunday, 1 September 2019. Booking the date was extremely stressful which shocked me. I am a Senior Event Planner for Food Story and plan other people’s weddings for a living. I could never understand why brides would call me and sound so stressed just after they got engaged and I always thought my journey would be different. It wasn’t!
Firstly, finding a venue. Working for Food Story I am lucky enough to work in the most incredible spaces across London and the UK. But the thought of choosing a venue where I have worked before felt the same as getting married in my office. It was important to me that our wedding didn’t feel like someone else’s wedding and it was personal and unique for us.
We have chosen a space which has an amazing outdoor, undercover terrace which means we don’t have to rely on the English weather. Located in the heart of the City, it has all the character I love about London with a real summer feeling about it which is perfect for us as we want to create a “Marbella meets Tuscany” theme.
Other Confirmed Vendors
Danny and I are very casual and laid-back people and it is important to us that our wedding reflects that. The ceremony itself is the most important part of the day and we plan to have Danny’s closest friends holding a chuppah pole each to make it more intimate and personal. As for the rest of the day we just want to party until our feet are numb with our nearest and dearest.
We have booked Chiko Photography. Chiko has been the photographer at both of my sister’s weddings and whilst he himself isn’t available I am excited to work with his team. Jamie Paskin is a close friend of mine and we love working with him at Food Story events, so I have booked him as our MC.
Food Story will of course be catering and I am really excited to start creating a fun and relaxed menu together with our incredible team. My colleagues are my friends so I am going to try and find a way to design a menu that allows them to be guests too.
What Marriage Means To Me
I think marriage is just that, a commitment to each other and a public declaration of our love.
