Real Jewish Brides: What’s Most Important to Rebecca for her Wedding

16/10/2018 by Smashing The Glass

Rebecca will be marrying Danny on 1st September 2019 in London, UK. Click here to read all Rebecca’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Rebecca and Danny met on JSwipe (2) Rebecca is a Senior Event Planner at Food Story (who just so happen to be our favorite kosher caterers!) and plans other people’s weddings for a living (3) Rebecca and Danny are planning a “Marbella meets Tuscany” themed wedding in the heart of London!

What Really Matters

Working for Food Story I get to see so many beautiful weddings; stunning centrepieces, bespoke stages, dancefloors, bars, the list can go on. But when working on an event I am very much into the logistics and don’t often step back to take it all in.

During the busy wedding season just gone, I tried to find moments to think about:

  1. What is most important during a wedding?
  2. What is important for guests to feel at a wedding?
  3. What’s most important for the couple at a wedding?

I am not sure I have the answers for everyone, however for me I know that the answer to all three questions is… LOVE. Most people who know me will tell you I am not very sentimental, so this answer was a little surprising. But, when I think about our wedding day all I can think about is surrounding myself with the people I love most.

Our bridesmaids and page boy

Since my last blog we asked our nieces to be my bridesmaids. They are mine and Danny’s world, we love watching them grow up and we couldn’t imagine our wedding day without them having a role.

Even though they probably expected to be our bridesmaids, I wanted to ask the children in a special way.  Lyla (9), Lola (7) and Ivy (5) received a personalised scratch card each, in an envelope with a coin and some hairbands / bracelets.

Ettie is still a baby, she will be almost 18 months at our wedding but for now a little young to appreciate the scratch card, so we got her a personalised teddy bear.

Sullivan, now twenty months and as the only boy, we wanted to get him something different too, a lover of puzzles, we found a personalised puzzle which once put together asked him to be our page boy.  Needless to say, they all said yes!

My two older sisters aren’t officially bridesmaids, grown-up bridesmaids have never really been a thing in my family, but they will of course be by my side throughout the planning and will no doubt have their fair share of responsibilities.

By the way, Etsy is my new favourite website, if you want something personal this is the place to look.

Visioning our chuppah

If I had to choose what I am most excited about, it is our Chuppah. It is the only part of my wedding that I keep think about and planning. The more personal I can make it the better.

Rabbi Lew will be marrying us. Rabbi Lew was my Rabbi whilst growing up and married both my sisters. I am looking forward to starting our lessons and talking to him about how we can make our ceremony meaningful to Danny and me.

My brother (my life) will be walking me down the aisle along with my dad, a tradition started by my eldest sister ten years ago at her wedding.

As mentioned in my last blog, Danny’s oldest and closest friends will be holding one of the four poles of our actual Chuppah structure.

My brother’s oldest friend Daniel has a beautiful singing voice and with much persuasion he has agreed to sing as I walk down the aisle, I am beyond excited and feel so lucky to have someone I have grown up with and love, sing for me.

Our Entertainement

Ever since Danny met my cousin Tobias aka DJTJ, they formed a close bond and since then we have always spoken about him DJing at our wedding. So, the minute we got engaged one of the only things we knew was he was going to do a set. We didn’t want him to be our only entertainment, otherwise he wouldn’t be involved in the party himself, so he is performing for half an hour.

Danny and I both love live music, so we are having a band for the rest of the night, but we feel so privileged to know and love so many talented people that we can include throughout our special day.

Danny and I want every part of our day to reflect us, individually and as a couple. Throughout the rest of our planning we will continue to ensure we are surrounded by love and remember it is our special day. It is easy to be influenced by what everyone else is doing but as an event planner it is my priority to make sure I don’t feel like it is someone else’s wedding.
