Real Jewish Brides: Gaby And Her 7-Week Countdown

02/04/2019 by Smashing The Glass

Gaby will be marrying David on 26th May 2019 at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London, UK. Click here to read all Gaby’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Gaby and David met at work at an advertising agency in London (2) Gaby is Jewish and David is Christian, and they are planning an inclusive ceremony and party that will embrace both of their cultures (3) They are planning an urban luxe wedding in a converted London lighthouse – we LOVE the sound of this!

The 7-week countdown

We’ve reached April (and spring, Hurrah!), which means it is the penultimate month before my wedding, MADNESS! Since January came, it really has been full steam ahead. Time really has flown by.

Juggling a busy work schedule and planning a wedding has presented challenges, which I am sure all brides can relate to this. It is the mental exhaustion of never switching off. After a long day of work, the last thing you want to do is re-open your laptop and mull through multiple spreadsheets. Nevertheless, with a positive mental attitude and the end goal in sight, I have made my way through so many tasks that it has put my fiancé and in a fairly good place.

Creating lists

It sounds obvious but creating lists is the only way you will keep on track of everything and ensure you are not overwhelmed. By ticking of a few tasks at a time, you will feel in control and not overwhelmed. Whilst I’ve had the time I’ve got on with tasks which many have told me I don’t need to do yet – but why wait? I want to ensure the last week or so before the big day is as stress free as possible. Let’s face it, that probably isn’t going to happen, but if I can make it more bearable by being as organised as possible then why not try?!

Dress and veil

I have my first dress fitting next week, which am excited/anxious/nervous/nauseas about. I bought the dress in February 2018 so it has been over a year since I saw it. I have no doubt I will fall in love with it as I did the first time (I hope).

I have managed to source fabric and have a tailor make my veil which is saving almost £200. I want a cathedral veil (I am talking Meghan Markel style) which can be very costly. Let us face it, you wear it for a matter of hours (if that) so to spend upwards of £300 is quite excessive and not something I am comfortable with. I would advise brides who haven’t reached this stage to maybe think about doing the same – it gives you more flexibility of what style you want and a lows you total control over it.

Meeting with the photographer

We are meeting with our photographer to go over the photo call sheet. I remember my brother’s wedding, we missed the ENTIRE reception because there were so many variations of pictures and it seemed like it took forever. Whilst you want to get as many variations as possible, I want to enjoy every moment of my wedding which means being part of every aspect.

I also want as many candid shots as possible. I understand that posed, choreographed pictures are necessary but I do not want my whole album to consist of pictures of the bridal party stood against a white wall. I want the essence of the day captured naturally.

Slow down and enjoy the moment!

I am feeling organised at this stage of the planning and with 7 weeks to go I want to ensure I enjoy every moment, despite the stress! I am trying to slow down and remember that there are certain things guest remember at a wedding and certain things that don’t. It is important to place your energy (and money) to areas that are important and focus less on the things that are quite forgettable! You can literally go on forever but at some point you have to draw the line!

Good luck to all brides and grooms!
