Real Jewish Brides: Charlotte on officially postponing

31/03/2021 by Smashing The Glass

Charlotte will be marrying Adam in September 2021 at Swynford Manor in Newmarket, UK. Click here to read all Charlotte’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Adam proposed to Charlotte on holiday in Cyprus (2) Charlotte and Adam met at work in London (3) Charlotte is a member of STG Brides Club!

It’s official, the wedding is postponed. Our countdown of just 38 days is now 178.

Marrying Adam is the most important thing to me, so now, I am a September bride and I couldn’t be more excited.

Real Jewish Brides: Chris on working on their Ketubah

17/03/2021 by Smashing The Glass

Chris will be marrying Ariel on 6th June 2021 in Chris’ Aunt and Uncle’s front yard. Click here to read all of Chris’ planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Ariel proposed to Chris in November 2020 (2) Chris swiped right on Ariel and the rest is history! (3) Chris + Ariel will be having an intimate 10-person wedding.

When I told my mother (a hippie Jew who married an Irish Catholic community organizer) we were working on our Ketubah, she told me that the thought of a document proving she had been sold to a man did not fit in with her feminist sensibilities. For this reason, they did not have one for their interfaith marriage in 1982. I explained to her that although I see where she is coming from, it is traditional to fight in front of your Ketubah. Writing it together is a way to craft a reminder of what is important to us when we don’t like each other very much or when the road ahead seems too hard to bear.

My mom thought this reframing was beautiful. With that lofty goal weighing heavily on our shoulders, during a weekend away on the Cape, in the dead of winter, looking out onto a frozen lake, we began to craft this sacred document: part love letter, part promise, part aspiration, part reminder.

Real Jewish Brides: Orli on Her Upcoming Wedding

10/03/2021 by Smashing The Glass

Orli will be marrying Ben on 30th May 2021 at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London, UK. Click here to read all Orli’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Orli and Ben met on Jswipe. (2) Although their venue, the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, couldn’t be more quintessentially London, Orli and Ben are going for a countryside feel. (3) Orli is a member of Smashing The Glass’s Brides Club!

When we first decided we were going to postpone in June of 2020, we had thought that by our new date 30 May 2021 everything would look normal and we would be able to have our planned wedding with 220 guests. We thought we would be able to get married with all of our family and friends around us and it would be at our original venue St Pancras Renaissance. However, the closer we got to our original date of 6 September 2020, the more we realised that things wouldn’t be back to what we used to think was a ‘normal wedding’. By November, we had postponed our honeymoon to South Africa and I had cancelled my hen.

Real Jewish Brides: Jenna on Postponing for the Third Time

03/03/2021 by Smashing The Glass

Jenna will be marrying Mat in November 2021 at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Arizona. Click here to read all Jenna’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Jenna + Mat have known each other all their lives – they met when they were both one-year-old at a baby class! (2) Their relationship began at the University of Arizona in March 2012 (3) Mat proposed at Jenna’s parents house in December 2018

Things have been quite crazy these past few weeks! We packed up our apartment in Brooklyn & started a cross-country drive to move back home to Tucson, AZ. So thankful for pods-style moving services that let you pack up, then they ship the moving pods, & deliver when you’re ready!

We already have our hands full driving with a cat, I’m glad we don’t have to be driving a Uhaul. Can’t wait to be fully moved into our large, less expensive than our one-bedroom-NYC-apartment house! Our drive will have taken us through 12 states total & with 2 stops along the way to see people: one with a friend from college & a 2nd stop with my brother, sister-in-law, & nephews, just in time for Purim!

Could you be our next real blogging bride?

23/02/2021 by Karen Cinnamon

BLOGGING-BRIDE

Happy Tuesday! How has your week been so far? Well it’s about to get that bit better as today I’m opening the doors to becoming a real blogging bride for Smashing the Glass!

That’s right – I’m looking for one bride-to-be to join our current group of STG real blogging brides. As a blogging bride, you’ll get to blog regularly (every 8 weeks starting in April) for Smashing the Glass sharing the highs and lows of planning your Jewish (or Jew-ish) wedding. You’ll be able to share your plans with, and seek advice from, the wonderfully loyal community of STG readers from all over the world.

Then, at the end of the experience you’ll not only get to celebrate your wedding, you’ll also get to have it lovingly blogged on the pages of Smashing the Glass.

If you would like to become an STG real blogging bride, you must have already set your wedding date, and that date must fall any time from 1st August 2021, onwards. You must also have a flair for writing, and be able to commit to contributing one blog post every 8 weeks. There’ll be plenty of guidance, and a few bloggy treats sprinkled along the way too!
