We’re In Love With This Meaningful Jewelry for your Jewish Wedding {by Kanarek}

25/10/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

Custom

When picking out jewelry for your Jewish wedding – whether that means jewelry to wear yourself as the bride, to give as gifts to your bridesmaids, or even cufflinks to give to your groom – of course you want it to be an exquisite piece.

But you probably also want it to be meaningful too. And that’s why I’m so delighted to be sharing one of my favorite sources for wedding jewelry with you, Kanarek Jewelry.

Based in Brooklyn, Yael Kanarek believes that language holds special meaning unique to each individual, and endeavors to capture that beauty in each piece she creates. Her line of fine jewelry based on names, dates, and words – in Hebrew, English, or the language of your choice – brings language to the body in a sophisticated, straddling the line between playful and chic, and she has some great affordable pieces in the lineup.

Any STG grooms who happen to be reading, take note: so many of these pieces would be absolute perfection as gifts to your bride on your wedding day too…

In addition to the beautiful selection of designs on her site, Yael specializes in custom jewelry – how perfect would it be to get a piece with your wedding date, or your names, or a special location or quote that’s meaningful to you as a couple? The sky is really the limit here, and Yael’s worked with many languages (even Sanskrit), so there are plenty of options beyond Hebrew!

We’re so thrilled to be showcasing some of our favorite Jewish wedding-ready pieces from the collection, as well as a few fantastic custom pieces for inspo. Continue ReadingContinue Reading

We’re crazy about Ketubot!

17/05/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

mashing The Glass Ketubahs
Artisan I by Ruth Mergi I $795 I Available to buy from Ruth Mergi

Here at Smashing The Glass, we’re totally, insanely, ridiculously crazy about Ketubot! Funnily though, when I got married to Mr STG, I didn’t actually realise there were so many amazingly talented Ketubah artists out there. When our Rabbi asked us if we wanted him to source us a standard Ketubah we just said ‘yes of course’ and didn’t think much of it.

It was only after I started Smashing The Glass that I realised there were SO many beautiful Ketubot available to couples and they literally come in a design that will suit EVERYONE.  From luxe, to paper cut, to art deco, to traditional – there really is something for every taste.  What’s also super amazing is that the Ketubah text can be customised for every wedding whether you’re having an orthodox, reform, inter-faith or LGBTQ.

We are so thrilled (and lucky) to have some amazingly talented Ketubah designers featured on Smashing The Glass over the years, so we have pulled together some of our favourite designs currently available. Let us know which is your favourite in the comments below and of course happy pinning!

Happy Thursday! I’m Emily, Smashing The Glass’s new(-ish) features writer, and I’m so excited to be officially introducing myself to all you lovely readers. I’m a New York City-based writer, editor, and food blogger with a passion for baking, books, and barre class. I’ve been a fan of Smashing The Glass since 2015, when I was planning my own Jewish wedding (which ended up getting called off, but that’s a story for another time – if you know any eligible 30-something NJBs, hit me up!).

Since February, I’ve been working with Karen behind the scenes on blog content, planning some exciting projects in NYC, and hanging out in STG’s Brides Club where Team STG offers round the clock support and advice on any and all things wedding.

Speaking of all things wedding – bridal fashion is one of my absolute favorite wedding topics, so I’m thrilled to share some of my top bridesmaid dress picks for 2018/19.

We get so many brides asking for bridesmaid inspo, so we wanted to share some of our favorites with you.

These days we’re lucky to have nearly infinite options when it comes to our ‘maids attire, from long and romantic to short and sassy, with a pantsuit thrown in for good measure!

Read on for some fresh looks that your best girls really will like enough to wear again (yes, I’m going there).Continue ReadingContinue Reading

A Night in The Life of a Wedding Blogger… at The Royal Experience with Karen Tran

19/04/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

Karen Tran Royal Gala Dinner at the Lanesborough in London
It’s not everyday that team STG get to attend a Royal Gala dinner, so we are dying to tell you all about this one! We were lucky enough to attend the Karen Tran Royal Gala dinner at The Lanesborough Hotel in Hyde Park, London and we had the most wonderful time!

The special Royal Gala dinner was the culmination of the three day royal wedding inspired floral masterclass attended by students from all over the world and delivered by global floral icon and renowned floral designer Karen Tran.

Karen Tran Royal Gala Dinner at the Lanesborough in London
Karen envisioned a grand wedding breakfast fit for the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Miss Meghan Markle., and the outcome was a perfect blend of outstanding American floral design in a typically English regency style setting.

Presented by Elizabeth Solaru of Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium and Jane Riddell of Planned for Perfection along with support florist Leanne Roberts-Hewitt of Wildabout, the floral filled gala was a breathtakingly beautiful kaleidoscope of pastels, whites and gold.

Karen looked absolutely stunning in her incredible dress (fit for a princess) from one of our favourite STG Recommended Vendors The Wedding Club.

If you’re anything like us, we are sure you will be absolutely BLOWN away by the amazingness of this fabulous dinner!  We’ll let the pictures do the talking now, enjoy… there is some serious pinning to be done here!

The Perfect Palette

Karen transformed the wedgwood blue Belgravia room designed by the late Albert Pinto into a floral wonderland featuring the most dramatic floral tunnel and tablescape laden with exquisite blooms supplied by Piet Van Kampen of G Fresh.

She used a combination of blush and peach roses, white hydrangeas, seasonal tulips in white and pinks, hyacinths, phaelanopsis and cymbidium orchids to create her signature tall cascading table arrangements. In between the tall arrangements were baroque gold candlelabras and along the length of the tables were low groupings of flowers in beautiful hand cut vases and gold candlesticks.Continue ReadingContinue Reading

Wedding Gift Lists – Yay or Nay?

25/01/2018 by Karen Cinnamon

PrezolaHere at Smashing The Glass, we’re big fans of gift giving (and, if we’re honest, gift receiving), but we know that not everyone feels the same way as us.

Gift lists can feel thorny for some. Couples who have lived together for a while can find themselves stuck on what to ask for, as they already have everything they need to start a life together. Others may find gift lists a bit too traditional, or feel uncomfortable asking for things for themselves. However, we’re so strongly in favor of having a gift list, that we’ve decided to make it our personal mission to change your mind!

Because we’re such huge advocates of the idea, we thought we’d call on some true experts to help make the case for us, our dear friends at Prezola!

Prezola, the UK’s favourite wedding gift list, known for being stylish, on-trend and, great news for the wedding budget, free, are taking over the STG pages with some top tips for creating the perfect wedding gift list.

Remember that people will get you gifts regardless

Even if your invitations specify “no gifts”, it is inevitable that people will want to bring something. Many would feel uncomfortable arriving to a wedding empty handed, while others may assume that you don’t really mean it.

Whatever their reasons, well-meaning people will definitely ignore you. You may as well give them a list full of things you truly want and will cherish forever, instead of being forced to stare at that lovingly given hideous china ornament from great aunt Marion for the rest of your married life.

Get over your discomfort

We totally get it – it can feel uncomfortable to ask guests for gifts on top of their already considerable travel or accommodation expenses, but they will have factored that in and will be really happy to have some guidance when it comes to buying you a present.

If you still feel a bit iffy about it, there’s no harm at all in making it clear in the invitation that you are not expecting anything but the pleasure of your guests’ company, but for anyone who wants some guidance, you have provided a gift list.

Reduce the risk by using a protected gift list

Using Prezola takes away all of the potential risks associated with giving wedding gifts. It prevents potential loss from guests do not turn up with envelopes of cash, or cheques, potentially made out to the wrong name. Everything is insured and 100% guaranteed to be delivered to you, so a gift list really does give you peace of mind.Continue ReadingContinue Reading
