A Sassi Holford Bride for a Glitzy Winter Jewish Wedding at The Brewery, London, UK

Whenever a wedding at Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor The Brewery comes our way, we know it’s going to be something special. From the perfect location in the center of London to the stunning exposed brickwork and breathtaking wooden beam ceiling, the wide array of spaces to use for different elements of the wedding day to the helpful staff, The Brewery just ticks all our boxes – and then some.

And the beautiful Jewish wedding of Emma, who works in PR and also runs a lifestyling business, and Daniel, who has his own personal training business, does not disappoint. Their stunning photos from Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Blake Ezra capture the splendid setting so perfectly – not to mention all the love and emotion between the couple on their big day.

We’re also obsessed with Emma and Daniel’s beautiful nature-inspired ketubah, designed by Adriana at Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Ink With Intent.

Now over to the bride, who looked beautiful in Sassi Holford…

Venue

Emma, the bride: It’s not often six people are left speechless looking at a wedding venue. That is exactly what happened when me, Daniel, and our parents saw The Brewery for the first time. From the stunning exposed brickwork to the breath-taking wooden beam ceiling, the setting for our wedding was picture perfect.

The Brewery was simply the perfect venue for our wedding. From the helpful staff to the gorgeous rooms our special day took place in, it really made the day truly unforgettable.

As the party started, located under the exquisite carpet of fairy lights draped from the ceiling and amongst the eye-catching flowers surrounding each table, The Brewery came to life. The dance floor made everyone feel welcome as everyone, young and old, danced and sang the night away.

Winter Glitz

I (Emma – the bride) am obsessed with glitter and sparkles, and given it was a winter wedding, we decided to have a metallic theme for the wedding, with the bridesmaids wearing gold and silver sequin dresses. We didn’t use a wedding planner – it was a combined effort between us and both sets of parents.

Hair + Makeup

My hair was curled, with half of it plaited at the back with a few flowers interspersed. I had soft, smoky metallic eyes. My makeup artist was Kerri Kenner who was absolutely incredible and created such a relaxing and calm atmosphere on the morning of the wedding, as did the amazing Zoe Norris who did everyone’s hair. Zoe basically acted as an additional bridesmaid and was on hand throughout the day.

A Sassi Holford Dress

My dress was a Sassi Holford design. I always knew I wanted an illusion neckline so that the dress appeared to be strapless (strapless dresses are great, but I didn’t want to be constantly worrying that I would be pulling my dress up the whole time). I always thought a big princess-style skirt with lots of layers would look silly on me as I was short and I thought the material would drown me, but as soon as I tried on a dress with a full skirt I changed my mind entirely. I actually picked an original design from Sassi Holford’s collection that included a lace bodice and illusion neckline, but asked for the design to be changed slightly to include a full skirt.

Accessories

I wore a long veil that included lace detailing on it that matched with my dress. It also had subtle Swarovski crystals on it that when the light hit them made the veil sparkle.

Miu Miu Shoes

It was important to me that I picked a pair of shoes that I would wear again and that would be comfortable to wear again. I opted for an amazing pair of two-tone gold and silver glitter Miu Miu sandals with a block heel.

The handsome groom

Daniel wore a tailored tuxedo from Moss Bros – he got to pick every element of it, including the construction, fabric, fit and details. He even got our wedding date stitched into the lining of the jacket, so now he will never be able to forget our anniversary!

Bridesmaids

It was important to me that the bridesmaids felt comfortable in what they were wearing. I knew I wanted them all to wear sequin metallic dresses but wanted them to be able to pick the exact style. We went for mix and match dresses from Sorella Vita (stocked at Pure Couture Bridal Boutique), with two of them wearing gold and three wearing silver. They all wore white fur stoles to walk down the aisle to add to the wintery theme.

Ceremony

My best friend and maid of honour picked the glass that Daniel smashed and got the broken glass made into a mezuzah as our wedding present.

Ketubah

Our ketubah was designed by Adriana at Ink With Intent. We initially found her designs on Etsy and immediately fell in love with them.

Our music choice

Daniel and I are obsessed with music so this was a big part of our wedding! Our first dance was to Jason Mars ‘I Won’t Give Up’. We actually had dancing lessons ahead of the wedding and did a (very basic) ballroom dance to this.

My obsession for music comes from my dad and we often go to concerts together. As a surprise, my dad arranged for our favourite (relatively unknown) singer-songwriter, David Ford, to come and perform at the wedding. I had jokingly said to my dad years before that if I ever got married I would love for him to play a specific song of his as the wedding and lo and behold he did!

Photographer

Blake Ezra captured stunning photos outside The Brewery of the two of us, as well as priceless moments of us, our families and our guests through the night, ensuring we were able to look back at memories we’d never forget. It was particularly special having Blake as our wedding photographer as he had taken me on Jewish summer camps as a young teenager.

Food

The team at The Brewery did the catering and the food was delicious! We also had an old school ice cream cart as an extra surprise for our guests after dessert.

Entertainment

Our band were Muzika who were truly outstanding. Every person was on their feet until the very end because of them!

A week apart

Daniel and I spent the week apart before the wedding. I went home to my parents’ house on the Saturday after the aufruf and we didn’t speak for the entire week. This meant that the first time we saw one another and spoke was in the badeken room, which meant there were a lot of tears and emotions!

On each of the tables at the wedding, we had pictures from our childhood; the age of each photograph matching the table number.

Honeymoon

We went to Thailand and Vietnam on our honeymoon. We had both always wanted to visit Asia, so we decided to go away for three weeks and cram in as much as possible in that time. The first part of the trip involved a lot of sight-seeing and travelling around. We ended the trip with nine days in an amazing hotel in Phuket – the Twinpalms – which was incredibly relaxing.

Advice to couples currently planning their wedding

I’m a massive control freak, but throughout the planning I learnt to let go. I had to accept that I couldn’t control everything and that I couldn’t do everything by myself. My advice would be to ask for help from those around you. On the day, I completely let go and didn’t worry about anything. There will always be things that don’t go exactly to plan, but firstly none of your guests will know and secondly it just doesn’t matter!
