A Bright and Bold Quirky Jewish Wedding at Woodberry Wetlands, London, UK

02/02/2018 by Karen

Jewish-wedding-Woodberry-Wetlands-London-UK
Here at STG HQ, we’ve just about come down from the high of our Smashing Summit and launching the VIB club – so normal service resumes once more in the form of this amazing, colorful and uplifting Jewish real wedding.

Ruth and Dan are both journalists, and they applied their creative skills to their wedding with aplomb! The day was an absolute visual feast, from the eco-friendly and foliage-heavy floristry, to the magically lit marquee and the bright, color-pop giant balloons. Just gorgeous!

Bride Ruth showed off her unique and stunning sense of style with her two-piece BHLDN ensemble, and looked a vision in it, pairing it with some killer heels from ASOS, before changing into her sensible-but-gorgeous Kurt Geiger bridal flats.

Even their chuppah has an adorable origin story, with the couple constructing it together with their best friends, who tied the knot the week before Ruth and Dan’s wedding.

Both bride and groom made a speech (hooray) and the couple had a moving Reform Jewish ceremony, involving the whole family, and honoring Ruth’s late grandfathers by using their tallit to cover the chuppah.

Jordanna Marston absolutely smashed the photography, with her expert eye for character and emotional moments, while the tear-jerking wedding trailer was provided by Olive Grove Films.

We’ll leave you now with Ruth’s incredibly eloquent write up – we know you’ll all enjoy reading it and gazing at all the wedding pretty as much as we did!

How we met

Ruth, the bride: We met at a Halloween party in 2009 (our costumes are too embarrassing to share… let’s just say it’s a miracle we got talking). The two friends who brought each of us to that party were at our wedding, pleased as punch.

A Rustic-Chic Jewish Wedding at Soho Farmhouse with an Elizabeth Fillmore Bride

17/07/2017 by Karen

Jewish Wedding Soho Farmhouse UK_0027
A rustic chic aesthetic, live music aplenty, adorable extras and an incredible amount of family involvement defined Charlotte and David’s divine Soho Farmhouse wedding day.

When we say family involvement, we mean that the happy couple had an entire team of amazing helpers. The wedding was planned by the bride’s mum, the invitations designed by the groom’s sister, the jewellery provided by the groom’s mum, a dear friend of the bride sang the couple through their first dance – a perfect example of how the Jewish community comes together in times of celebration.

As Charlotte is a music manager, it went without saying that the wedding was packed with live music, including a gospel choir for the ceremony – now that’s something you don’t see at every Jewish wedding! The wedding featured two of our wonderful musical Recommended Vendors: Boutique Chupah Music (hear their amazing rendition of ‘Boi Kallah’ to the tune of ‘Hallelujah’ in the Insta-clip below), and the amazing  Wedding Smashers, who were on hand to kick the party up a notch and truly honor the venue’s ‘last man standing’ curfew policy.

Adorable extras included a midnight munchies van outside (heaven), and the guests arriving by milk float, which the STG team has now decided to use as its exclusive mode of transport from now on.

We’re also LIVING for Charlotte’s incredible, full-skirt Elizabeth Fillmore dress. What an absolute vision of bridal beauty!

Right, it’s now Charlotte’s turn to take over the STG pages with her fabulous write up – enjoy!

A venue with a last-man-standing curfew

Charlotte, the bride: We got married at Soho Farmhouse. We loved going to friends’ weddings abroad. You can’t beat the laidback atmosphere of an abroad wedding. We wanted to create that in the UK without any hassle of organising a function abroad, and Farmhouse allowed us to do just that.

We loved Soho Farmhouse from the moment we stepped foot onto the grounds, which was when it first opened, perhaps a year or so before we got married. Plus, their curfew rule is ‘last man standing’.

A Watters bride for an ‘all white’ destination interfaith Jewish Wedding at Masseria Le Carrube, Puglia, Italy.

17/05/2016 by Karen

Destination-Wedding-Masseria-Puglia
Thank goodness we’re having some summery weather in London this week as today’s destination wedding is making me crave eating ‘al fresco’. Those rustic tablescapes are some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. Don’t they look inviting? And Abigail Warner‘s stationery is so fabulously ‘destination’ too. I’m sure there were no RSVP declines to those!

With Adam being British, and Paula being Brazilian, as well as part-Japanese and European, this is another wonderful example of a Jew-ish, mixed faith, mixed culture, mixed nationality wedding and I LOVE it.

First of all that styling… Get your pinning finger ready as the girls as Design Anarchy Studio designed this white-on-white wedding to perfection. Then there’s the fashion.. Paula rocks her two-piece top and skirt by Watters  (isn’t it divine?) and just wait until you see her jewelled Givenchy sandals — they’re pure destination luxe! Adam plays his part of the dashing groom in his chic ivory suit too, and the legendary Wedding Smashers DJ’ed until what looks like dawn!

This wedding is filled to the brim with style and grace, and not only do I have the wonderful images for you by Cinzia Bruschini, but also the film by Marco Caputo at the bottom of the post.

Come on then, let’s dive in — you’re going to love it.

Missy & Yoni | Super cool and colourful South East London Jew-ish wedding at Asylum Arts and The Big Red Pizza Bus

01/07/2014 by Karen

South-London-Wedding
When I first looked through these Jew-ish wedding images submitted by the legendary Laura Babb I was doing a little happy dance over every detail…

Smashing a piñata instead of a glass? SQUEAL!  Derelict crumbling chapel for a Jew-ish ceremony venue? HOLY MOLY!  Vivienne Westwood glittery red shoes? HOT DAMN! A colourful mariachi band ? WHOA! A DJ outfit called the Wedding Smashers WOW! I mean this wedding is just begging to be blogged on Smashing the Glass!

Aside from being an amazing day full of fun, laughter, heart and joy, and apart from being documented by the outrageously talented (read major photographer crush) Laura Babb, one of the things that I love most about this wedding is that the couple tried their hardest to source everything from local suppliers in their area of South East London.
