A Lillian Wild Bride for an Autumnal Jewish Brunch Wedding at Towne & Oak in Winnetka, Illinois, USA

We love a good brunch wedding here at Team STG. And bagels-and-lox-loving couple Carly and Jonathan’s autumnal Midwestern Jewish wedding is one of the best we’ve seen – pandemic or not.

These two always wanted a fall Sunday afternoon wedding, but just as they began planning COVID-19 started taking hold. After much deliberation, they decided to go full steam ahead rather than waiting for the crisis to pass, embracing their intimate wedding of 13 (down from an original guestlist of 150) and sharing a professional livestream with those who couldn’t be there in person. And even though it wasn’t the wedding they’d initially planned, you can tell from each and every one of Alisha Tova‘s stunning photos what a very special day it was.

We’re obsessed with the couple’s gorgeous ketubah, custom designed and handmade for them by Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor BRITcolors. Britt spent time getting to know Carly and Jonathan so she could dream up a unique ketubah that was totally, 100% them – and she totally knocked it out of the ballpark with the finished product, featuring ‘70s-inspired floral designs in a mixture of embroidery and watercolor.

How We Met

Carly, the bride: My work is in brand marketing and storytelling, and Jonathan works to develop strategic partnerships. We met during the summer of 2016 in Chicago, Illinois. My profile had appeared in the friend suggestion section of Jonathan’s Facebook newsfeed. Jonathan soon discovered that my dear friend Alex was our mutual connection, so he reached out to him asking about my status.

Alex said Jonathan was a nice guy, so I gave Alex the OK to give Jonathan my phone number. Jonathan called a few days later. After a fun 30-minute conversation, we scheduled our first date. We ate a delicious dinner at the pizzeria Spacca Napoli and then saw a beautiful performance by Sarah Jarosz at the Old Town School of Folk Music.Continue ReadingContinue Reading

A Madi Lane Bride for an Intimate Jewish Wedding at Norrice Lea Synagogue, London, UK

Like so many 2020 couples, London couple Anna, a paralegal, and Simon, an English teacher, had to rethink their Jewish wedding plans when the pandemic hit. The pair had originally planned a 300-guest destination wedding in Israel for May 2020, but given the uncertainty of the situation they opted to shift things closer to home with an intimate synagogue wedding in London in September 2020, with a bigger celebration in Israel to follow when possible.

Anna and Simon chose Norrice Lea Synagogue as their new venue, and they were able to hold the wedding in two separate shifts – one for the chuppah and lunch afterward, attended by 30 members of the couple’s immediate families – and a second dinner shift just for 30 close friends who hadn’t attended the first half of the day. 

As always, we’re absolutely in love with  Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Claudine Hartzel’s dreamy photos of the day – and we’re totally unsurprised to hear that the couple found Claudine an absolute joy to work with on the big day.

How we Met

Anna, the bride and Simon, the groom: We were introduced by a mutual friend of our parents; she told us very little about each other. A Rime Arodaky Bride for a Backyard Jewish Micro Wedding in Connecticut, USA

We are absolutely in love with the beautiful backyard Jewish wedding of NYC couple Alexis, a physician, and Marc, a lawyer! Alexis’s work as a front-line provider during the peak of the pandemic in New York made the pair realize it was time to seize the day and seal the deal.

Since Alexis and Marc didn’t want to wait long before making it official, a backyard wedding at the bride’s parents’ home made perfect sense. The couple didn’t have much time to spend planning, so they sought out micro wedding expert Susie Blumenfeld of Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Pink House Productions to plan the rustic celebration of their dreams. And are we ever obsessed with the outcome – the perfect intimate romantic day, strewn with white blooms and greenery (including the most beautiful birch chuppah). We also love that in shopping for the perfect dress for her casual outdoor day – something she had to do all online, since bridal stores were closed due to the pandemic – Alexis sought out French designers whose lines included civil ceremony dresses. A Casual, Vibrant Backyard Interfaith Jewish Micro Wedding in Scarsdale, New York, USA

We love that when their original wedding plans for a black tie New York City wedding were waylaid by COVID, Bryar, a physician assistant at NYP Columbia, and Bradley, a VP at a private wealth management firmed based in Manhattan, opted to see it as an opportunity.

A few months into the pandemic, they moved out of their NYC apartment and into a house in Scarsdale. And given that it happened to have a gorgeous backyard, they figured it would be the perfect spot for a casual minimony – in which, unlike their big wedding (now scheduled for October of this year) where they’re going for timeless elegance, they felt free to experiment and have fun.

The 15-person micro wedding was a chance to try out things they wouldn’t have chosen for their big celebration – like filling tiny bud vases with bright seasonal flowers and opting for a non-traditional but totally stunning bridal ensemble. We’re obsessed with the dramatic sleeves on Bryar’s Vanessa Cocchiaro dress, ordered from Net a Porter, and how cool is her DIY pearl tiara (which she made by combining two pearl headbands)?!Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Megan Mills captured everything so perfectly, from all the gorgeous details to the couple’s love and happiness. Before we hand you over to Bryar, we want to share some of her reflections on her micro wedding:

In hindsight, I am so overjoyed that we got to have our micro wedding in our backyard of our new home. The evening was so intimate and we both were so present throughout the entire day. I feel like we are both so looking forward to our bigger celebration now because it will be just that. We will get to dance and hug everyone we will not have seen in so long, without the stress that a whole wedding day usually carries. Our advice to anyone considering a micro wedding is…do it!

Micro Wedding

Bryar, the bride: Our original wedding date was May 30, 2020 at Tribeca 360. We were so excited to have a black tie New York City wedding. We wanted an evening that was glamorous, yet filled with love, and lots of dancing! When the COVID pandemic began, I was working with Covid patients daily, so Brad actually moved in with his mom in CT and I stayed at our apartment in NYC. We initially postponed our wedding to October 31, 2020 (the last Saturday that wasn’t booked in 2020 at our venue), but we quickly realized that a large wedding in 2020 was not going to be feasible.

In July, we ended up moving out of the city and purchasing a home in Scarsdale. We are lucky enough to have a beautiful backyard and we decided to have a small ceremony in our backyard on September 5. It was 15 people total, just our immediate family and two friends, along with our Rabbi, Rabbi Michael Friedman from Temple Israel in Westport, CT.Continue ReadingContinue Reading

A Jesus Peiro Bride for an Oceanside Destination Jewish Wedding with a Carrot Bouquet at Cochav Ha Yam, Caesarea Israel

Here at Team STG, we’re no strangers to cool and unusual bridal bouquets. But just when we think we’ve seen it all, something totally new comes along. Like beautiful London-based bride Jenna’s carrot bouquet in today’s gorgeous Jewish wedding. Jenna’s a nutritionist, so it’s only fitting that she’d want to incorporate some fruit and veg into her breathtaking destination wedding to Adrian, a management consultant.

Although Jenna had planned on including some edible florals into her day – the table decorations included lemons and limes – the carrot bouquet started out as a jokey surprise from the bride’s mother, who figured she’d take a few pictures and be done with it. But turns out Jenna loved it so much she opted to carry it down the aisle – and we are so glad she did! You’ve GOT to check it out in Ronen Boidek’s exquisite photos.

And speaking of exquisite – how much do we love Jenna’s Jesus Peiro gown, which she found at beloved Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Morgan Davies Bridal in Farringdon, London. Jenna knew she wanted to wear something ultra-memorable for her big day, and for that you can’t do much better than Jesus Peiro’s statement-making modern styles.

How we Met

Jenna, the bride: We met at university. We ended up living together with a group of our friends and things began to blossom. We were actually friends for about 3 years before that though!
