A Pronovias Bride for a Traditional Jewish Wedding Filled with Personal Touches at Sopwell House, St. Albans, UK

20/10/2025 by Karen Cinnamon

Jade and Adam, Sopwell House, St Albans, UK

We absolutely love the approach London couple Jade and Adam took to planning their gorgeous Jewish wedding at Sopwell House: while there’s no question that this day was a stunner from start to finish, the pair went into it with a focus not so much on the aesthetics as on honoring the sacredness of a Jewish wedding and elevating the celebration – not only of their love for each other, but for all of the loved ones who helped make the day possible.

And we love the way the couple brought in their roots – Jade hails from South Africa, while Adam grew up in Plymouth, Devonshire – with fun touches ranging from mixing English roses and South African proteas together in the ketubah design to freshly baked scones in place of a traditional wedding cake – served with cream first, then jam, naturally!

Jade and Adam were married under the 300+ year old chuppah from Plymouth Synagogue, where Adam grew up (and under which many of his family members have wed), draped with the tallitot of Adam’s late father and Jade’s late grandfathers. Don’t miss it in the wonderful photos and video from Milda Vasile Photography!

Jade’s mom, Viv Weiner, a talented artist, hand-painted their invitations, benching cards, and table names – not to  mention the ketubah and a bespoke Siddur and Tehillim book for Jade to daven with on her wedding day!

Now over to Jade, who looked like a fairy tale princess in her stunner of a Pronovias gown (which just happened to have pockets!)…

How We Met

Sometimes the most beautiful love stories begin with missed connections, forgotten conversations, and a wooden fish symbolising hope for finding one’s beshert. The journey from strangers to soulmates proves that timing truly is everything.

Adam first noticed Jade at the JLE during a particularly difficult time in his life; attending a talk for the Shloshim after his father’s passing. Despite his grief, he was struck by Jade’s warmth as she greeted Rabbi Dov Cowan, whom she’d known from a Jewish trip years earlier and, unknowingly at the time, Adam’s best friend. Their paths crossed again at a Friday Night Dinner, where Adam offered to walk Jade’s friend back to Golders Green. When he lost track of the friend, he reached out on Facebook to check if she was okay, but Jade barely remembered their conversation or even who he was.

From Jade’s perspective, Adam was simply “a sweet, quiet guy” who appeared at various community events and charity dinners. She admits she probably saw him as “the boring accountant type” without even knowing he is, in fact, (spoiler alert)… an accountant. Their interactions were sporadic and often forgettable – at least for Jade.

At a Jewish learning event, Adam, intrigued by Jade’s purple hiking boots paired with a smart work dress, discovered she was preparing to climb Kilimanjaro.

The next day, at a mutual friend’s engagement party, Jade tried to set him up with a friend, but this time they shared a meaningful moment: exchanging wooden fish decorations from the table as a symbol of hope that they would both soon find their soulmates.

When a mutual friend shared Jade’s charity fundraising link, Adam immediately donated – partly for the good cause, and partly hoping for a ‘thank you’ message. This simple act of generosity opened the door to real conversation. Jade discovered Adam had messaged her over a year earlier, and they had actually been Facebook friends since that first Shabbat dinner encounter.

What followed was a bonding conversation over favourite desserts, packing cubes and snacks that revealed Adam’s thoughtfulness, humour, and kindness. While Jade was climbing Kilimanjaro, Adam was in Malta with friends, eagerly waiting for her message. The moment she returned from the mountain (airport detention (a story for another day) and second Oxford graduation), they arranged their first date at Delicatessen (where they recently went back to for their 1-year date-anniversary on 8 July).

Their first date was beautifully ordinary – a walk to dinner where Jade brought snacks and Adam brought an umbrella. As Jade sat across from him, she wondered two things: why wasn’t he eating the hummus she’d ordered to share, and could this be someone she could fall in love with?

Over the following week, through sushi on park benches and Shabbat walks, Jade discovered something profound about love. As she puts it: “Love isn’t about falling, it’s about ‘climbing’ in safety, security, vulnerability, commitment, enduring and unexceptional kindness and respect.”

For Adam, the certainty came instantly. From their first date, he knew Jade was “the one” – someone with whom he could be completely himself, someone who radiated “loving, kindness, warmth, generosity and care.”

As Adam wrote in his wedding speech: “From our very first date, I knew that there was a special connection between us. I didn’t believe in soul mates until I met Jade. You are my beshert, and I really believe I was always holding a place in my heart for you. It has been a long time coming, but I kept the faith, and I am so glad we finally found each other.”

As Jade wrote in their wedding invitation: “Marrying Adam doesn’t even feel like a decision. It feels like acting out the ordinary course the way things are meant to be and the way they have always meant to be.”

Amber-and-Sammy-Offley-Place-UK

There’s nothing like an English country house Jewish wedding, and we absolutely love the way Amber, a research manager in fashion recruitment, and Sammy, an IT director, pulled off their epic celebration at the beautiful Offley Place in Hitchin.

With the most picturesque surroundings, a stunning outdoor chuppah adorned with white roses, and a fab vegan reception – featuring plant-based eats using ingredients from Israeli company Redefine Meat – this wedding was just full of joy and love. And we’re thrilled that Amber and Sammy found two of their fab team of professionals, Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendors Chazan Jonny Mosesson  and Rabbi Paul Glantz right here on STG!

Chiko photographed the day so perfectly, and CCS Video captured all the vibrant emotion of the day in their wonderful trailer. Read on for all the rest of the details in Amber’s own words!

A Pronovias Bride for an Interfaith Jewish-Catholic Wedding at Offley Place, Hitchin, UK

10/06/2024 by Karen Cinnamon

Rachel-and-Jason-Offley-Place-Hertfordshire-UK

When London couple Rachel, who works as a programme manager in the social impact sector, and Jason, a product manager in the technology sector, got engaged, they knew their top wedding planning priority would be to blend their two backgrounds into an authentic and meaningful interfaith wedding.

Rachel is Jewish, while Jason is Catholic, with Portuguese roots – and it was important to both that their religion and traditions were represented in the day. The pair worked with their officiant to craft a bespoke ceremony combining aspects of traditional Jewish and Catholic ceremonies, and they wrote their own ketubah text (which they then translated into both Hebrew and Portuguese!). Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor The Delicate Brush turned it into a gorgeous piece of art, adorned with the most stunning florals and metallics.

Music was another way Rachel and Jason showcased their backgrounds, and their choice of Matzoh Boys as their band could not have been more perfect. In addition to their Jewish music prowess and  fab Israeli singers (one of whom is Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Jonny Mosesson), the Matzoh Boys also have Latin and Gospel singers – so in addition to a stellar Israeli dancing set, Rachel and Jason also got Portuguese tunes and a hymn for their ceremony.

The pair chose Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Liam Smith as their photographer, and we could not be any more in love with his ultra-moving documentary images. They loved Liam’s natural style – and can’t rave enough about what a wonderful and calming presence he was on the big day!

We can’t turn you over to Rachel without mentioning how timelessly elegant she looked in her classic Pronovias dress, which she found at Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Mirror Mirror in Islington, and where she adored working with the wonderfully attentive team.

Now over to Rachel!

How We Met

Rachel, the bride: We were set up on a blind date by Rachel’s cousin, who worked in the same company as Jason. Given that Rachel is Jewish and Jason is Catholic (both brought up in practicing households), we didn’t envisage that a blind date would turn into a serious relationship, let alone a marriage. However, we quickly realised that we wanted to be with one another, which meant a lot of pretty serious conversations about how we could blend our different backgrounds together early on. Now, seven years later, we’re married!Continue ReadingContinue Reading

A Chanukah Jewish Wedding at Hackney Town Hall, London, UK

11/05/2020 by Karen Cinnamon

Dvorit-and-Ollie-Hackney-Town-Hall
There’s nothing like a Chanukah Jewish wedding. The Festival of Lights is such a magical time to get married – which makes it a no brainer that Dvorit, who recently completed a master’s in genetics and now works in the charity sector, and Ollie, an urban planner, chose to wed on the holiday’s last night.

In honor of the holiday, Dvorit and Ollie lit candles, sang Chanukah songs, and even had a donut wall instead of a cake! We’re in love with the way Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Claudine Hartzel captured this joyous celebration in her luminous, natural photos – and videographer CCS Video brings the fab energy of the day to life!

And HOW stunning is the couple’s incredible London venue, Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Hackney Town Hall? These two wanted an ultra-memorable spot to tie the knot, and did they ever find one – the breathtaking atrium, where the chuppah took place, is nothing short of majestic, and Dvorit and Ollie took full advantage of the lift handily located in the atrium to make a dramatic entrance. The bride and her parents entered the chuppah space via the lift before disembarking and walking down the aisle, and at the end of the ceremony the couple exited via the lift as well – talk about a memorable exit!

We’ll let Dvorit fill you in on the rest…

HOW WE MET

Dvorit, the bride: Ollie and I met over 3 years ago when I was visiting my brother and his family here in London (I am from Montreal, Canada, and was studying in New York at the time). Ollie worked with my brother in Bnei Akiva and my sister-in- law suggested Ollie as a potential love interest. We started talking (with Ollie none the wiser what was going on), and started dating 3 months later.

We then did long distance for 2 years (thank god for Facetime!) until I moved to London in September 2018 to do my Masters at UCL. We got engaged in the summer of 2019 when my family was all together in Montreal for my grandfather’s 100th birthday. We then got married on December 29th 2019, on the last night of Chanukah.
