A Sassi Holford bride for a Jewish destination wedding at The National Hotel, South Beach, Miami, USA

19/05/2017 by Karen

Whether or not you believe in fate, I think we can all agree that Rubie & Ben make a good case for its existence. In fact, fate wouldn’t leave these two alone. It threw them together in chance meeting after chance meeting, insisting that these two lovebirds were meant to be.

Their beach-themed, Miami destination wedding was an absolute dream. Who could ask for more than to get married, barefoot, sand between toes, in idyllic surroundings? And it was very much a family affair, with everyone offering their help. From wedding-planning siblings and parents, to hair-styling sisters, Rubie and Ben’s loved ones certainly did not let them down.

Sit back, and soak in the sun, sea and sand, as well as the stunning details, such as the beachy driftwood Chuppah overlooking the sea and the stunning seaside-inspired buttercream cake, all captured with dedication by photographer, Paul Toeman.

Breathtaking bride, Rubie, looked a vision in her timeless gown by STG Recommended Vendor, Sassi Holford. And speaking of the STG family, the couple flew in two more of our amazing Recommended Vendors. Wedding band, Totem, and the tear-jerking wedding trailer you absolutely must watch (below) is by Denee Motion.

How we met

Rubie, the bride: We met aged 17 at the final of a school business competition, nine years ago. We came from two very different worlds, and kept bumping into each other: first at the school competition where we didn’t even get each other’s names, then at an open day lecture at Leeds University, again not exchanging names and then, finally, I ran into ben in a crowd of 250,000 people at Reading music festival later that summer. After the third fateful meeting, we decided we should exchange names and have our first date: a cup of tomato soup from the Salvation Army tent… and the rest is history!

Simon & Nik | ‘Black & White and Chic All Over’ same sex Jew-ish wedding at Sunbeam Studios, London, UK

14/01/2015 by Karen

same-sex-london-wedding-2
Today I have a double dose of gorgeous grooms with Simon and Nik, who held their Jew-ish wedding at Sunbeam Studios in Ladbroke Grove not far from London’s famous Portobello Road. This super cool venue is a photographic studio by day (Mario Testino shot this Vogue cover there) and holds weddings and events by night. The building was originally the UK’s first ever purpose built car factory and is the perfect blend of classic historical and creative cool.

Their wedding theme was inspired by the venue (always a great starting point for a theme!), in particular, its monochrome interior. Yes, these two limited their colour palette exclusively to black and white, and they weaved it through every last detail including their entire outfits, and that of their guests, which I must say is really effective! Black and white is such a chic theme and relatively simple and easy to work with, and these guys let their creative juices run wild with statement details like their extraordinary black and white wedding cake! It’s by Choccywoccydoodah and it will set your taste buds and creative sparks alight. Honestly folks, I have yet to post anything quite like it on the pages of Smashing The Glass — I can’t wait for you to see it!

And with Simon being a fashion blogger (check out his site, The Very Simon G) it wasn’t surprising that the two grooms looked super hot in their haute couture black and white ensembles, my personal favourite detail being Simon’s studded Christian Louboutin shoes. Super epic.

The wedding film below, courtesy of one of my hand-picked Smashing Suppliers, Denee Motion, will make you laugh and cry, as will the images by STG regulars, Reportage By.

The report today is written by both of our grooms. Enjoy!

Emma & Simon | Intimate and Enchanting Garden Jewish Wedding at Home in London

09/01/2014 by Karen

28AT HOME LONDON WEDDING 2Denis from Denee Motion Boutique Wedding Cinema, one of our Smashing Suppliers, recently contacted me to share one of his favourite wedding films from 2013 and I had to share it with you. It’s an ‘At Home’ wedding, and is full of warmth and lovely intimate creative touches.

As Emma, the bride says, “When it came to the venue for our wedding, we didn’t even look anywhere else but the family home. I knew I wanted my wedding to be a bit different and so being able to have it at home was the perfect way, and made it even more personal.”

“My mum and I spent a lot of time looking for ideas. She is very creative anyway and likes to add her own personal touches to things. We had a shared Pinterest account so we could both save images of things we found that we liked or could use as inspiration.”

“For the tables, rather than having people’s names printed on cards at their places, we wrote everyones names on fresh ivy leaves and placed them on the napkins which were tied with a ribbon which had the wording ‘live, love, laugh’ on. We were going to just use a coloured ribbon that tied into the colour scheme, but when I found the ribbon with the wording on, I felt it really summed up what I thought was important in life and it became a bit of a theme of the wedding as I had it engraved on my husband’s wedding ring and my mum used the wording in her speech.”

“My mum did a lot of the flowers outside of the marquee herself as she has a flower business and she even integrated pictures of myself and my husband growing up into some of the displays.”

“The wedding itself was a traditional Jewish wedding, but it was lovely again to be able to add personal touches into the ceremony by having our brother’s hold the poles of the chuppah, with one of my husband’s brothers actually taking part in the ceremony, as he is a Rabbi.”

Awesome wedding videography guaranteed

29/10/2013 by Karen

I am a great believer that wedding videography should be beautiful and subtle (as well as breathtaking of course!). It should echo the mood and feeling of the day but not dictate it in any way. Denis from Denee Motion does exactly that. Based in Central London, but shooting weddings worldwide, he is making some serious waves throughout the international wedding market and likes nothing better than filming gorgeous weddings and being part of a couple’s very special day.

I’ve fallen in love with not only Denis’s beautifully wholesome approach to videography, but his passion for his work, his family and his clients. From speaking to him today, I’m totally convinced he’d be a great videographer to work with.

Says Denis, “We have to ensure clients are 100% happy with the film, so we always discuss their vision and preferences with them. Some clients send over wedding videos that they love and that’s very helpful in understanding whether we are on the same page for the vision of their wedding day.”

As far as working on destination weddings goes, Denis says. “Working with destination couples is always exciting, and our planning starts well in advance, including location scouting and area researching. Outside of the UK, our wedding work has taken us to New York, Los Angeles, various regions of France, Italy, Dubai, Croatia, Indonesia, The Caribbean, Montenegro, Cyprus and beyond. I love traveling the world and discovering new cultures and traditions.”
