Hello from New York! Emily here, reporting back from New York Bridal Fashion week on all the hottest Fall/Winter 2020 collections.

Bridal Market happens twice a year in NYC, in April and October (you can check out my recap of last April’s highlights here).

The October show is the bigger of the two, with lots of high-impact runaway shows and all the designers vying to show their latest and greatest.

This market, designers were focused as much on weighty topics like inclusivity and sustainability as on aesthetics. Models were more inclusive than ever before, with lots of designers featuring plus-size models, Theia including a model in a wheelchair in their runaway show, and Galia Lahav‘s campaign video for their new collection starring a transgender model.

But I know you’re here for the dresses, so let’s go…
PEARLS

Pearls are positively everywhere. Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Lee Petra Grebenau even named her latest collection “Fields of Pearls,” and it’s a totally fitting description for that stunner above.

But don’t think that pearls = demure. I love how designers like Anne Barge are subverting the stereotype.

On hems, sleeves, toppers… you name it, it’s been covered with feathers by some bridal designer this season.

MINIS

Minis aren’t exactly new to the bridal scene, but there seem to be more and more of them every season.

There’s such a diversity of styles – perfect if you’re looking for something fun and flirty to change into for a second dress!

Even your bridesmaids can get in on that min action.
CORAL

I saw a bunch of gowns with gorgeous coral-looking patterns, usually in beading. It’s a nice change from your typical florals, and straddles that line between nature-inspired motif and abstract design just about perfectly.

Sky-high (or should that be thigh-high?) slits are popping up just about everywhere this season.

As are sheer panels, cutouts, and the most plunging of necklines.

SUSTAINABILITY

Coming on the heels of Greta Thunberg’s appearance at the UN, it’s no surprise that sustainability was a hot topic this market. Lots of designers are taking on various initiatives to make their lines more eco-friendly.
One favorite designer who’s been championing reduce-reuse-recycle since before it was cool? Halfpenny London. This British designer’s long made a habit of finding creative uses for fabric scraps – like the delicate tulle flowers on these sweet puff sleeves.
So there you have it! What are your favorite looks for Fall ’20? Let me know in the comments!
