Jewish Newlywed Spotlight: Sam Levitz

11/08/2021 by Karen Cinnamon

Sam is a member of Smashing Life, our community membership club for Jewish + Jew(ish) women.

ABOUT SAM

Where are you from? Brooklyn, NY
What do you do for a living? Project Manager for a social agency
How did you meet your partner? OkCupid
When did you first know you were in love? 1 month into dating. He told me he loved me 2 weeks in, but I needed a couple more weeks to realize I felt the same!

ABOUT YOUR WEDDING

When and where did you get married? November 4, 2019, El Caribe in Brooklyn, NY
What was your wedding song for walking down the aisle? ‘How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)’ (Acoustic)
How many guests did you invite to your wedding? 250
What was your favorite part of/thing about your wedding day? Having all of my friends and family together and feeling the love radiating off of everyone!
Best wedding planning tip? When you’re stressing about the little details and you’re having trouble making a decision, remember that the guests don’t know what the options were. They’re only going to see the final result and will have nothing to compare it to so they will LOVE whatever you end up picking!
Wedding vendors you would recommend? Truly loved our wedding venue, highly recommend!
Where did you go on honeymoon? We took a 3 week trip around South East Asia: Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam
What does marriage mean to you? Marriage means making a commitment, even when things get tough, to love each other and support each other every day.
Has your relationship with your partner changed since you got married? We basically got married and went straight into the pandemic. Our relationship has changed only in the sense that our love and appreciation has deepened for one another. We have faced a lot of challenges this last year and we always make it out the other side. We can do anything together.
Secret to a happy relationship? It’s cliché, but never go to bed angry. Fights will happen, but always speak to each other with respect and kindness, and try to communicate everything upfront so there are no surprises, secrets, or resentments.

ABOUT YOUR JEWISH LIFE

Fave meal to eat together on Friday night? My homemade chicken matzo ball soup!
Fave Jewish festival If we’re talking literal festivals…I love Rosh Hashanah! But out of all of the holidays, I love Pesach.
Fave piece of Judaica in your home I absolutely love our menorah. It’s a Michael Aram twist menorah and it’s so pretty.
Fave Jewish food Still chicken soup. Always chicken soup.
Fave Jewish tradition It’s weird to say, but I think shiva is one of the most beautiful traditions. I love that the community gathers around and is able to come together to be there for each other.
Fave wedding gift you received for your home A frame to display our smashed glass in!

What do you love most about being a SMASHING LIFE member?

The community! I truly feel like I have found the best group of people to navigate celebrating my Jewish life with!

FUN STUFF

Top of your Bucket List: I really want to see the pyramids in Giza
Perfect weekend is… Exploring someplace new, being outside in the sunshine, and eating something yummy.
Happiness is… Getting to go to sleep next to my best friend every night.
