Top 10 Chuppah Entrance Songs

08/08/2013 by Karen

Chuppah-Entrance-Songs

What song would you like to walk into when you walk down the aisle to your chuppah? There are lots of lovely traditional Jewish songs such as Jerusalem of Gold, Dodi Li, L’cha Dodi, Erev Shel Shoshanim, ‘Sunrise, Sunset’, modern Israeli songs like Mitachat Lashamayim and Lekol Echad Yesh or choose from Smashing The Glass’s Top 30 songs to walk down the aisle to at a Jewish wedding.

I asked Maya Bechor from Zebra Music to recommend 10 fresh chuppah entrance songs for the modern bride and groom. What I really like about Zebra is that they gently encourage Jewish couples to step out of their comfort zone of ordinary “wedding music”. They know exactly how to get the crowd pumped and the party started!.

Zebra and Smashing The Glass are proud to bring you some of the more non-traditional, interesting, happy, energy-filled chuppah entrance song ideas. Listen, enjoy, and… MAZAL TOV!

1. HEY HO BY THE LUMINEERS
This is a great song choice that crosses every type of person and musical genre.

2. ALL I WANT IS YOU BY BARRY LOUIS POLISAR
A cute little love song from the “Juno” soundtrack, A real feel-good song with loving lyrics.

3. GOD ONLY KNOWS BY THE BEACH BOYS
The legendary American rock band gave us one of our favourite songs for wedding season – every word counts.

4. LET’S STAY TOGETHER BY AL GREEN
Classics always work. Al Green sure knows how to put us in a sentimental mood with this soulful love ballad.

5. YOU ARE THE BEST THING BY RAY LAMONTAGNE
With his rough and moving voice Ray will captivate all of your guests, it’s very simple — “you are the best thing that ever happened to me”.

How to unearth inspiration and ideas for your wedding day

11/07/2013 by Karen

Today’s post is written by the lovely Kate Shaw from Perfect Details. I’m a big fan of her site – she supplies the most beautiful wedding dà©cor accessories, hire wear and personalised details that together create some lovely finishing touches for your wedding day.

It’s really, really hot in everybody’s office this week, and any brides-to-be planning their wedding are finding their concentration slipping even more to table centre ideas, and where they can match a ribbon colour to their bridesmaid’s dresses…

But with so many places to research weddings, and too many people happy to give you their experience and opinion, where really is the best place to get new ideas for how you’d like the biggest day of your life to look?

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER WEBSITES
A picture says a 1000 words? The better photographers have online blogs showing off all their best work, which is going to be capturing the magic and detail of other people’s weddings. You can find a photographer who has worked at your venue before so you can get ideas of how to specifically decorate that venue space.

Steven Brooks, a good friend to PerfectDetails.co.uk, is one of the best there is. His blog is full of gorgeous inspirational shots, giving you ideas not just on how to decorate your venue but also of the photos you’ll want to make sure you ask your photographer to get if you’re not lucky enough to have booked Steven himself!

Unusual wedding cake and wedding dessert ideas

04/07/2013 by Karen

wedding-cake-ideas
When you’re deciding what wedding cake or dessert to have, think about making it reflect who you both are as a couple and let it symbolise your story or embrace the theme or essence of your wedding. Ditch the three-tiered extravaganza and go for something unique and unusual that represents you both.

I did without a wedding cake altogether and instead had a huge surprise birthday cake made for the Irish catholic friend that miraculously set Jeremy and I, a Jewish couple, up. It had a photo of her edibly printed as Yente the matchmaker from Fiddler on the Roof and it went down a storm! You can see pictures of the cake, and her reaction, here.

Here are some other alternative and unusual wedding dessert ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

1. A novelty cake featuring something you love. Natasha & Jez absolutely love cow print and went for a lifesize cow cake!

2. Do you and your partner love playing a particular board game? How about a Monopoly cake, a backgammon cake, or a Scrabble cake where you can really have fun with the tiles and words!

3. If you have a wedding logo or monogram, have cupcakes displayed in your monogram design or have it iced onto a cake.

How about this for an unwanted wedding guest?

04/07/2013 by Karen

Getting married can be a scary prospect, but this bride has a bl**dy good reason to be alarmed.. she is being chased by a threatening Tyrannosaurus Rex.

With the help of Photoshop and a fun couple and wedding party the photographer, Quinn Miller, created the image and posted it on his Facebook page on Monday under the heading ‘Things got real crazy at the Lowder wedding last night.’

The picture has now gone viral and is being labelled as the ‘best wedding photo ever.’

Mr Miller does not know what the newlyweds reaction will be – they are currently away on their honeymoon…

How to personalise your wedding #2: create some easy DIY memorable wedding stationery

01/07/2013 by Karen

One of my favourite websites, when I’m wearing my design hat, is the printing site moo.com. They provide brilliant customisable printed products at really good prices. I used them for my ‘JK’ monogram stickers that I created for my wedding stationery and they can help you produce all sorts of creative personalised wedding ideas. Here are some lovely ideas that other creative brides and grooms have done:

SAVE THE DATE CARDS
Another fun idea are these ‘tying the knot’ save-the-date cards. The pictures of the bride and groom (Kerry and Terrell) at various ages are printed on Moo Minicards and then are tied to a home-printed card carrying the details, with a perfect knot.

PLACEHOLDER CARDS
Kelly Harris personalised Moo’s minicards with the faces of her guests to make everyone feel special (they make great icebreakers too). Kelly laboriously sourced photos of her 300+ friends and family from Facebook and other means and then displayed the place holder cards in corks which she found in on eBay. Absolutely gorgeous!

GUEST WISHCARDS
Gary and Luzel made guest wishcards for their wedding using lots of their favourite photos printed on Minicards on one side, and a printed little “advice for the newlyweds” message on the reverse. Very cute and very memorable.

EXTRA WEDDING DETAILS BUNDLES
Chris Hannah designed some Business Cards in the same colour as his invitations to make a cute little package that included cards for things like Wedding Gift List, Dietary Requirements and wallet sized Travel Directions. He then bound them with hand-cut paper strips, held together with round stickers, customised with his wedding monogram.

THANK YOU CARDS
Use a mix of your official shots on business cards, greeting cards or postcards for Thank you card, like Tania Chau did.
