We’re obsessed with the fact that Jazzie and Moshe’s vision for their Israeli Jewish wedding was “a massive pizza party with our nearest and dearest!” How fun does that sound?!
In keeping with their theme, Jazzie and Moshe kept things low-key and casual, with lots of involvement from family and friends. One of the most special touches: Jazzie’s grandparents served as flower girl and boy!
We also love that Jazzie upcycled her mother’s wedding dress for her bridal look – she had the lace of the gown turned into a top and had a skirt custom made by a local seamstress, and then when it came time for dancing she switched into a pair of fun bridal shorts!
Jazzie wanted to work with as many local female businesses as possible, and one of those was beloved Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor The Delicate Brush, who designed the couple’s stunning eucalyptus ketubah – don’t miss it in the wonderful photos by Sabres!
And we can’t go without mentioning the food: you see, this wasn’t just any pizza party, but a 100% gluten-free one! In addition to artisan pizzas, the menu featured lasagna, salads, bruschetta, hummus, and ice cream, and the couple got compliments on the fab menu for weeks afterward, with most guests not even realizing it was all gluten-free!
Now over to the bride…
How We Met
Jazzie, the bride and Moshe, the groom: It would be great if we could say we met, fell in love, and the rest is history- but the story doesn’t quite go like that. In the spring of 2021, amidst a global pandemic and a lot of uncertainty our very good mutual friends moved into the apartment next door to Jazzie. Who helped them move in? Well, Moshe of course.
Fast forward a few months and the 4 of us had become like family. We began to spend most Shabbat meals together and spent nearly every Saturday night watching movies, cooking, and playing games. Eventually, we began to also go out just the two of us (Jazzie thought they were dates, apparently Moshe did not.)
After many months of “dating not dating” Jazzie finally decided to just come out and ask Moshe what the heck was going on between them- and that is when we finally decided to stop fighting it and start dating. A year later Moshe asked Jazzie to marry him in one of her favorite places on earth and now the rest really is history.
Keeping It Close to Home
We picked Bait B’Guy because it was walking distance to our home, had a beautiful view, and we were able to bring in our own catering as we wanted to have a 100% gluten free wedding.
Pizza Party
We really wanted a casual, fun wedding. The idea was just a massive pizza party with our nearest and dearest. We kept the guest list to 150 which is quite small by Israeli standards. One of the most special things we did was have Jazzie’s grandparents as our flower girl and boy.
They passed out little bottles of alcohol that said “for when he breaks the glass” so that everyone could take a shot to celebrate us. The cocktail menu was our 4 favorite cocktails and the food was from a local 100% gluten free restaurant called Kazze, which is Jazzie’s favorite.
In leiu of cake, since it was a daytime wedding in the summer we had an ice cream cart. My very close friend Michal Kaye is an Israeli wedding planner and helped us secure our venue and vendors as well as with the day of organization as an extremely kind wedding present and we were so grateful to have her help!
Dress
My dress was actually upcycled from my moms dress! I had the lace of her dress turned into a top and had a skirt custom made by a local seamstress. I then switched into shorts for dancing. I’ve never liked wedding dresses and they just really aren’t my vibe so this was a way to make it something special and that felt authentic to me. the plan was to surprise my mom but she weaseled it out of me before the big day.
Bridesmaids
I didn’t have bridesmaids but I did have mellavot- 3 friends who were with me throughout the morning and for photos.
Ceremony & Chuppah
Jazzie’s favorite flower is sunflowers so we decided to go with a simple but fun sunflower design for the chuppah. We both walked down the aisle to non traditional songs- Moshe picked ‘Shufni’ a traditional Yemenite song and Jazzie walked down to ‘Eich Efshar’ by Jane Bordeaux.
Ketubah
Our ketubah was from Rachelle – The Delicate Brush. We went back and forth between the sunflower and the eucalyptus but eventually decided the eucalyptus felt more timeless.
Our music choice
We had a band, Eliran Sade Band! As it was a daytime wedding we felt that a band would give a more fun atmosphere and there’s nothing like a band at Kabbalat Panim for an Israeli wedding. We wanted a mix of traditional Jewish music, country, and modern Israeli music and they did it all.
Flowers
We worked with TzipMizFlowers – It was important to Jazzie to work with as many local female small businesses as possible so they helped bring my sunflower bouquet dreams to life. I ended up drying the flowers and putting them in epoxy to make wine bottle stoppers.
Photographer
We worked with Sabres because we wanted someone who would capture the moments and not just posed images and we are so so thrilled with their work! They also took social media clips throughout the day for Jazzie to use to share the wedding with her Instagram and Tiktok community.
A Gluten-Free Wedding
Our food was 100% gluten free from Kazze Jerusalem, we had fresh made artisan pizzas, lasagna, salads, bruschetta, hummus, and ice cream! It was incredible, everyone was complementing us on the food for weeks after and most people had no idea it was gluten free.
Honeymoon
For our honeymoon we wanted something that would truly allow us to relax and go off the grid so we took a Royal Caribbean cruise to Greece and it was PERFECT.
Advice to couples currently planning their wedding
Pick the 3 things that are important to you and worry about those 3 things only. Let the rest just happen. If you spend the entire planning process trying to make everything perfect you are setting yourself up for failure and disappointment. For us, the important things were food, alcohol, and photography. So we spent our time and energy on those things and worried less about the rest. and it was perfect!
