We love it when a couple adds lots of personal touches to their Jewish wedding – and Lucy and Michael really took it to the next level!
Artsy bride Lucy loves color – so much so that she couldn’t envision herself in a white dress and instead opted for a fabulous floral number by House of Savin. The couple based their color scheme for the big day around Lucy’s dress, and Lucy – who created all the wedding stationery herself! – designed it all to match the dress, too. Lucy even hand-embroidered kippot to go with the stationery design! Paul Toeman Photography (Cherish Studios) captured it all so beautifully.
We also love that Lucy created anniversary cards for each table to inscribe with messages to the couple to be opened on the wedding anniversaries that correspond with each table number!
We’ll let Lucy fill you in on the rest…

How We Met
Lucy, the bride: We met at Jewish summer camp. We would have first met when we were about 11 but started dating when we were Madrichim, age 17. We grew up together and went to university together.
An Outdoor Wedding
We fell in love with Micklefield Hall due to the beautiful outdoor space, lake where we had our chuppah and the stunning barn. We cannot speak highly enough of the venue and how accommodating they were!

Colourful Vibes
We planned the whole wedding ourselves and wanted it to feel as personal as possible.
We love colour and Lucy secretly based the colour scheme around her wedding dress, as well as creating all the wedding stationery and embroidering the kippot.

Invitation/Stationery
Lucy created all the invitations and stationery. It all matched her dress and flowers, and we had unique circle-shaped invites that everyone commented on. There were lots of personal elements, including our escort cards and name cards being on sticks in flower pots and mini succulents for the guests to take home.
Our table numbers corresponded with pictures of us at the age of each number.
Lucy also created anniversary cards for each table to inscribe with messages, to be opened on our wedding anniversaries that correspond with each table number.
Lucy also created matching benchers which listed the menu in the front and speeches in the back.
Lucy has since started a business creating bespoke, hand painted cards and event stationery, painting unique designs to match any brief.

A House of Savin Dress
Lucy loves colour and could not see herself in a plain white dress, though she did try on some. Lucy had searched for retailers that had colourful dresses and as soon as she put on this dress by House of Savin she knew it was the one! It was colourful whilst still feeling very bridal.
The dress is handpainted and Lucy had a matching undertop for the chuppah that was painted in the same florals.

Accessories
Lucy hand-embroidered the kippot to match the stationery design.

Ceremony & Chuppah
Our tish was a joint, mixed tish. But we didn’t want to see each other before the badeken, so there was a wall between just us that we could not see through. We had to get pretty creative to enact this vision as it was important to us that we could both be there.
We then had a private badeken in the rose garden, with just our parents. We chose to do this so that our first time seeing eachother would be a special private moment.
The chuppah itself was round the lake, which was part of why we loved the venue so much. It was important to us to both circle each other 3 times, and have as many female voices as we could, so one of our bridesmaids mc’d and our sister in law spoke.
The chuppah had to be vibrant and match Lucy’s dress of course!

Our music choice
Our band was Eli Tamir’s band, Infernos. They were amazing and created an incredible atmosphere.
Michael loves music so spent a lot of time choosing the right songs, including for the chuppah.
We had our first set of simcha dancing outside on the terrace, to allow for more space to start the party and the atmosphere was great.

Flowers
We used Flowers by Alina to bring our vision to life. The flowers had to be colourful as well as matching Lucy’s dress and all the wedding stationery, so blues, pinks, yellows, purples was the brief! They could not have matched better on the day!

Photographer and videographer
We used Paul Toeman Photography (Cherish Studios) who captured the atmosphere.
Marco Windham did an amazing job of videoing our day and we couldn’t be happier with the film, that captures all the emotion and atmosphere.

Food and cake
For food we used Marc Sharer, who did a great job of translating our vision; the food was amazing! We had sharing plates at the tables with mostly veggie-friendly options, and lots of refills! As well as sharing options for dessert too.
We also had vegan cheese toasties and churros later in the night, and finished the evening by toasting smores around the fire.

Extra Details
As per above, there were lots of very personal touches, including the mixed tish, private badeken, and chuppah around the lake with an emphasis on female participation.
The whole day was vibrant with colour and everything matched Lucy’s unique dress. Lucy created personalised hand-embroidered accessories, and hand-painted stationery with lots of attention to detail.
The atmosphere was amazing and all our close friends and family played a role in the wedding, whether it was reciting sheva brachot, making speeches or mc-ing at the chuppah.
We also spent a lot of time choosing our new surname, which ended up being a mix of both our non-married names. It was important to us that neither of us had to choose to adopt the other’s surname and lose their own, but we also wanted to share the same last name.

Honeymoon
We are now living in Australia! And travelled through Asia on our way, as our honeymoon.

Advice to couples currently planning their wedding
If you’re planning it yourself, make sure that someone else knows your vision on the day, so you don’t need to worry about it!
If you’re pinning up your dress for the party, have a spare pin. Lucy’s popped off as we ran into the party and she had to carry her dress the rest of the night!
