Real Jewish Brides: Rebecca’s On Her Eight Week Countdown!

21/08/2018 by Smashing The Glass

Rebecca will be marrying David on 7th October 2018 at a secret location in Israel! Click here to read all Rebecca’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Rebecca and David met on JSwipe (so old school we know 😉 ) (2) They are having a destination wedding in Israel at a secret location! (3) They are getting married on Rebecca’s grandparents wedding anniversary (who have been married for 64 years). We LOVE that!

We are now in our LESS THAN 8 WEEK’S COUNTDOWN! I can’t quite believe I am saying that…. Where has the time gone?!

A few weekends ago it was my hen weekend which was AMAZING. Everyone really enjoyed, and they are all so excited for the wedding now. If the hen is anything to go by, it’s going to be a great party! My Mum and Grandma also came down from Leeds for the Sunday afternoon tea which was lovely to share with them too.

I have also been to my first wedding dress fit session at Mirror Mirror. Luckily, I still love the dress as much as I did the first time I tried it on! They are now doing a couple of tweaks to the dress to make it my own.

I also bought my wedding shoes – I ended up going with Rainbow Club as they were the most comfortable I tried on (they are all cushioned around the balls of your feet — so I am hoping they will last me the whole night) and were also really reasonable in price.

I have always wanted to wear my hair up and was searching high and low for something timeless and special I could wear and then also keep to pass down (but not spend a fortune on). Emmy London was having a sample sale (I was given the tip off from Karen!) and I ended up finding a perfect handmade Swarovski Crystal hair clip which I am delighted with – it sparkles so much I can’t wait to wear it! (it was also 80% off … I love a bargain!)

Our invitations have been designed, (we chose Nicola Lewis at Purple Piranha who has just been amazing and so helpful) and they are now being printed and should be going out in the next couple of weeks. (Yes, I know — super late! But us Hirst’s are known for not being very good time keepers!) Luckily the whole wedding party has pretty much all booked their flights now without the invitations knowing exactly what we are like!

We also picked our florist, Olla Dagan who just came up with the most beautiful design for our wedding. She was so thorough and listened to exactly what I wanted but also gave me some great ideas I hadn’t thought of! She has been excellent so far, and I know we are in such good hands — I can’t wait to see it on the day!

I booked the mikvah for the Wednesday evening before the wedding. I ended up choosing the Neve Tzedek Mivkvah as my friend had recently been there and highly recommended it.

The flat renovations are in full swing and nearly finished! We are both so delighted with it and it’s been a great experience doing it together (luckily, we have the same taste — thank goodness!) We have been filling our gift list with such lovely things to make our house a home. Its been great starting out with nothing, it means our gift list is even more valuable as we literally need everything! Can’t wait until the day it is all delivered!

And that takes me up to date! We next are working on the finishing touches — the benches, kippahs, menu cards etc. So far, I am still feeling relatively calm, but I know these next final weeks is where it really starts to get busy and stressful as my friends have told me. I just say bring it on… I cannot wait!
