Real Jewish Brides: Orli on Her Original Wedding Date

16/09/2020 by Smashing The Glass

Orli will be marrying Ben on 30th May 2021 at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London, UK. Click here to read all Orli’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Orli and Ben met on Jswipe. (2) Although their venue, the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, couldn’t be more quintessentially London, Orli and Ben are going for a countryside feel. (3) Orli is a member of Smashing The Glass’s Brides Club!

Sunday 6 September 2020 was nothing that I could have imagined it to be. Not as expected, but such a fabulous day filled with wonderful memories. There were tears as I woke and a wave of emotion hit me that it was not our wedding day. As I looked over to Ben who was still asleep, it might have not have been the day we anticipated but we still had each other which is the most important thing.

Instead of spending the day thinking about what it could have been, I was determined to make it a day that we would remember for good reasons. One of my closest friends sent me a message telling me to write everything that made me smile on 6th September at the end of the day.  That list was so much longer than I thought it would be. The moment I put pen to paper, the list kept flowing and I couldn’t stop smiling.

We spent what would have been our wedding weekend in the countryside surrounded by our closest family and I even found myself saying at dinner that if our wedding hadn’t have been postponed we never would have the chance to all be away together making memories.

Waking up on the Monday morning was such a relief, a weight felt like it was lifted off our shoulders and we could stop thinking about our original wedding date and look forward to our new date of 30 May 2021. The lesson that I have learnt from it all was perspective. We now have 9 months till our wedding date and instead of being sad for what it should have been, instead I am looking forward to the moment that we can get married in front of our family and friends and hug each other so much closer and dance harder.

To those couples who are going through postponing a wedding and with the date getting closer, I want you to look at your fiancé and realise how lucky you are to have them by your side. Think of things that you are grateful for everyday instead of dwelling on what is going on. 2020 might be the year when so many weddings were put on hold because of the pandemic but love is not cancelled. Memories are not being stopped and you still have things to be grateful for. Celebrate love today and everyday because that is the most important thing.
