Real Jewish Brides: Maggie on Wedding Planning in Full Force

27/01/2021 by Smashing The Glass

Maggie will be marrying Danny on 6th June 2021 at Stone House of St. Charles in St. Charles, Missouri. Click here to read all Maggie’s planning posts to date.

THREE FACTS: (1) Danny proposed to Maggie on his birthday! (2) Maggie is in the process of converting to Judaism (3) Maggie is a member of STG Brides Club!

Wedding planning is in full force again. With only 5 months left till the big day things are starting to be put into motion.  As many of my friends and family already know our save the dates went out at the end of December.

They are beautiful and classic, going right along with the theme of our wedding, all thanks to the talents of Abbie Rudolph of Abbie Takes Pictures  for our amazing photograph on the save the dates and our friend Leah Sachs of Leah E Moss Designs who designed the whole save the date and will be continuing with our invitations, signage, as well as the big item, our ketubah.

We are so excited to speak with her about our ketubah as she is incredibly talented with watercolor art and this will be a major art piece that will hang in our home forever. For my friends and family who are not Jewish and do not know what a ketubah is, this is basically a Jewish wedding certificate.

My fiancé Danny is slacking a bit on some parts of the planning. He is in charge of arranging most of the Jewish touches in our wedding such as getting the pergola cover to be our chuppah as well as booking our kosher caterer for our kosher friends and family. Now, with 5 months to go, I have been nagging him a bit more.

Our wedding website is now up and running. We have our hotel room blocks reserved as well as I finally got Danny to fill in the information about his groomsman. We also have covered our information regarding COVID-19, as while we hope it is gone by June, it does not look that promising. It has been extremely exciting as our guests have been receiving their save the dates, they are making wonderful comments on how beautiful they are.

My dad’s friends say they are fridge worthy, which my dad explains is a large compliment coming from them. They are all making their plans to come to the wedding according to my dad which makes me happy he will get to see friends he does not see often since they are in Michigan and he is in St. Louis.

Some of the wedding party has also booked their stays in St. Louis already and booked flights since they are a steal right now. It is making me excited to see everyone getting excited for our wedding. We do still need to talk with our rabbi though because in exciting new he and one of our groomsmen are due with baby girls in May, which may lead to some problems with our wedding being the first weekend in June. We are excited for our friends but also at least I am waiting anxiously and hoping for early but safe deliveries.

In other news my bridesmaids dresses have been ordered and in a couple of months I will be ordering the flower girl dress for my niece. My dress finally came in after having to be sent back for some weird button issues. I ordered my dress to have buttons just down the zipper as the original dress buttons only went to the waist. My dress came in with buttons all down the train, not only this but it was pearl buttons to the waist and satin buttons to the train. I ordered pearl buttons to go along with the lace in the dress but also my mom’s veil has pearls throughout.

Thankfully, they were able to fix it and my dress is better than I Imagined. It fit me like a glove so very few alterations will be needed. This was surprising as when I ordered I was between sizes and we decided to go with the smaller size as I thought that was most comfortable. When I tried it on, I felt so bridal and for the first time in a while all this excitement has made me excited for my wedding and ready to plan again. I have included a little sneak peek picture of the train of my dress because I am just so excited about it.

We will be picking up our cake samples very soon, so one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning. We plan to do a whole dessert bar because well desserts are the best parts of weddings. We still need to finalize the dessert options, our open bar, transportation which will be easier now we have our room blocks, we are signing our contract with our photo booth today, kosher caterer, and small items needed for day of.

We ended up booking a wedding planner, Weddings be Renee and she has reduced so much stress for me. I honestly thought I could plan this myself but with my increased workload and Danny’s procrastination, I needed the extra help. Looking at her seating charts and timelines alone sold me on the fact that we needed her. I would not have been able to do that stuff myself with such detail. We also ordered our wedding cake topper off Etsy and love it!! She really makes it with all the small details of our dogs and my dress. If you are looking for an amazingly personal cake topper look no further than Clayphory.

Overall planning is well underway and getting kicked into high gear for some aspect. We are starting to get excited again as things are getting closer. We used to think we had all the time in the world because we had a year and a half to plan a wedding, but it snuck up on us fast. We are hopeful most of our friends and family can make it, but we will see as we will likely be having a COVID-19 wedding as well.
