ABOUT EMILY

Where are you from? Greenville, SC
What do you do for a living? Government Contractor
How did you meet your partner? We met through the dating app Bumble. I had moved to Charleston, SC two weeks before.
Where did you go on your first date? We met up at a little local bar called Voodoo in the Avondale neighborhood in Charleston, SC.
When did you first know you were in love? Harrison has a loud and deep laugh, when we first met I remember thinking that’s quite the laugh but after about two months I realized it had become my favorite sound.
How long had you been dating when you became engaged?A little over three years
What date are you getting married and where?  04/03/2022 at Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC

ABOUT YOUR WEDDING

Tell us about your wedding plans: We are having a 120 person wedding at a historic inn in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville, NC. The colors are a deep emerald green and white with touches of silver and gold. I love antique and historic elements and will be using my mother’s and future mother in law’s silver collection for my flower arrangements. My friend from college has started the most wonderful flower farm that is local to my venue location and will be handling all my florals, which will be bright and seasonal spring blooms with lots of greenery. We are having a live Funk band and are so excited to dance the night away! We will be having a traditional Conservative Jewish ceremony which is so special to me as my fiancé underwent the long process to convert to Judaism. The wedding will be a beautiful blend of traditional and classic elegance with fun pops of color and personal touches.
What’s the most important part of your wedding day? For me, it is the people that will be celebrating with us. I have so enjoyed picking and arranging all of the elements of the wedding but I know my fondest memories will be of our friends and family who are so excited to celebrate our marriage with us.
Fave Jewish wedding tradition? Circling the groom! I love the symbolism.
What does marriage mean to you? Lifelong partnership. There are so many joys and challenges in life but having the person that you want to experience each of these aspects of life with is invaluable. I look forward to laughing and crying with Harrison for the rest of my life.
Best wedding planning tip (so far!): When you first start planning, go through all of the big elements of the wedding and choose the two-three that are most important to you. We chose music and food and it helped us decide how we wanted to allot our budget.
Sum up your wedding style in three words! Classic, Romantic, Historic
Any wedding vendors you would recommend? If you are in the mountains of North Carolina or South Carolina I would wholeheartedly recommend Rachel at SunDragon Flower Farms she is an amazing flower farmer and florist!
Dream fantasy wedding guests? The Fab Five from Queer Eye and Heather McMahan
Fave celeb wedding? I loved Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s recent wedding. The cake was my favorite!

What do you love most about being a Brides Club member?

I grew up in a military family and moved often. I did not grow up in a big Jewish community and do not have many Jewish friends to talk about the elements of a Jewish wedding with. The Brides Club has been so wonderful to get advice and resources from so many Jewish brides all over the world.

ABOUT YOUR JEWISH LIFE

Fave meal to eat together on Friday night? We love lamb and I love to pull recipes from one of my favorite cookbooks- Jerusalem. I am trying to learn to cook more Israeli food!
Fave Jewish festival? Sukkot
Fave Jewish food? Rugelach
Fave Jewish tradition? I actually love everything about Shabbat. It is something I’ve really enjoyed sharing with my fiancé and look forward to making a special part of our future children’s’ lives. It is such a nice reminder to pause our busy lives.

FUN STUFF

Top of your Bucket List: Get into nursing school!
Perfect weekend is… A cook out with my family on Saturday night and then a Sunday afternoon at a local brewery with my fiancé and our two poodles
Happiness is… Morning coffee in bed with my fiancé and our pups
