The Wedding Buzz
The Wedding Buzz, we all know the feeling: the excitement we get from the moment we say yes to looking at your first wedding magazine, creating a Pinterest board, showing off our new ring, waking up every day knowing you’re one day closer to marrying your person – and then something we cannot control comes along as it’s gone. As if the Buzz was never there and you’re left with a heavy feeling, a feeling of ifs and maybes and you just can’t budge it.
I know from talking to other brides, both those who have have already postponed or like me, have planned for 2021 and haven’t had to postpone yet, that the loss of the Wedding Buzz is real. Oddly, it’s been a comfort to know that other brides feel it too. It’s strange to think you’re pleased other people have also lost the Wedding Buzz but nice to know you’re not over reacting or being over dramatic.
The last 4 months haven’t been what any of us expected this year to be and there have been so many missed moments and unexpected challenges.
When Adam proposed, the planning moved so quickly and I ticked so many jobs off the list. Another 4 months down the line and although we are slowly getting things done there is limited motivation and limited Buzz. Planning a wedding when you’re not sure what’s going to happen whether it be a pandemic or if you might lost your job because of the pandemic leaves a sour taste and an uneasy feeling.
Moving Past the Lost Buzz
I got some advice from a fellow Brides Club member, which was to focus on the positive things in the news. She sent me links to look at and news stories to read to move me away from the negativity. It has honestly really helped and I highly recommend it. Don’t let yourself get bogged down in the news, it’s scary and not helpful. Im trying to focus on how to get the Buzz back!
I’ve spoken to several brides about how they’re feeling and like me, there is a feeling of jealously towards couples both who are friends and family who have already married and had their dream day with no added uncontrollable uncertainties or potential postponements. Letting go of the things we cannot control is the advice we all give each other and it’s so easy to say and so easy to want to do but in reality, it’s much harder.
Focus on What you Can Control
Regardless of what happens there are some things we can control and some things we can’t. There are things we can do that won’t be affected no matter what happens. Concentrating on one task at a time has made it less difficult to concentre on and more manageable.
One thing I’ve focused on to try and keep the Buzz is our save the dates. Yes, the date could change but we’re working towards the date we’ve got. The last thing we want is for the wedding to go ahead our friends and family not be there as we didn’t send a save the date. The day I received the draft version I was in a low mood but, they are almost ready to go and I’m in LOVE! I cannot wait to get them posted! I’m hoping once people start receiving them they’ll get excited and it’ll help me too. If you’re wondering, we are sending a save the date to our full guest list and in the event we cannot have the wedding of the size we hope for we will send further details and an explanation of a smaller wedding.
Finally our engagement shoot is almost here. Due to the delay it’s more of a ‘1 Year Engagementaversary’ shoot but I think it just means it’s been an opportunity to have something to look forward to and an opportunity to find the Buzz
During lockdown we chose our wedding cake and loved the experience of our postal tastings! We’ve booked with Heather at Keen for Cakes. Heather made the experience so easy and met with me via zoom to go through the process and what we wanted. The choice of cake was fab and the flavours taste gorgeous!
We also booked the make up artist. We have chosen Amanda Steed Makeup and now restrictions are changing hopefully we can have a trial soon. To top it off the bridesmaid dresses have been chosen!
Although jobs are being ticked off the list the Wedding Buzz and excitement aren’t quite back. Taking it one day and one job at a time is definitely helping.
Bring on the Wedding Buzz!
