When Isabel, who’s completing her PHD in clinical psychology, and Kyle, who works in tech, set out to plan their Jewish wedding, they knew they wanted to focus on keeping things local. Taking their inspiration from the glorious Pacific Northwest surroundings of the bride’s hometown, the duo planned a local, natural, intimate farm-to-table Jewish wedding, and we are all about it!
Christianson’s Nursery in La Conner, Washington, was the perfect setting for the day, which featured tones of cream, green, and terracotta for a smoky late summer Pacific Northwest wedding vibe. They opted for natural flowers to complement the nursery setting – and incorporated lots of the nursery’s own potted plants into the décor, including potted herbs in terracotta pots as table centers!
Photographer Madison Bay and videographer Kyle Olthoff were the perfect fit for the natural feel of the day – read on for the full story in Isabel’s own words!
How We Met
Isabel, the bride: We met on Tinder many years back! It was unexpected but we clicked instantly and the rest is history.
A Nursery Venue
We got married at Christianson’s Nursery in La Conner, WA in Isabel’s hometown. Christianson’s Nursery has always hosted gorgeous events and weddings and they recently built a newer venue space on their property that could hold a large group. It is the ideal wedding venue and this allowed us to invite more guests and utilize the usual wedding venue on the other side of the property for our Friday night rehearsal dinner and welcome party.
Local Vibes
Yes! Danae Johnsen from Perfectly Posh Events in Seattle. Danae is a god send and made the entire planning process and day of coordination a breeze. 1000% recommend Danae for anyone getting married in western Washington!
Our focus was local, natural, farm to table, and intimate. Our colors were cream, green, and terracotta for a smoky late summer Pacific Northwest wedding vibe.
Dress
Bridal Breeze in San Francisco. Marina the owner was great! I wasn’t picky about my dress and together with my mom we found the one. I went with a fitted gown with light embroidering for the bodice and a semi long train with a finger tip length veil.
Ceremony & Chuppah
The sunset at the ceremony was gorgeous. Our officiant was the rabbi that did my conversion class. He was great and very laid back. We rented a chuppah from a temple in Everett. Narrow and simple copper poles with lots of greens and some flowers and a talis on it.
We had a simple ketubah and signed it just before the ceremony with our wedding party as witnesses.
Our music choice
We had a DJ – Bugsie Productions. He was great!
Flowers
We worked with Floravore. She and her team were excellent! We wanted a local florist with minimal/natural design that would complement the already verdant nursery/farm vibe. We chose white and terracotta colored blooms with eucalyptus and other greens.
She was able to use a lot of the potted plants from the nursery throughput the venue. Our table centers were potted herbs from the nursery in terracotta pots to match the color palette of the wedding.
Photographer and videographer
Madison Bay for photography. She was amazing and made us feel very comfortable and captured our laid back and natural vibe perfectly. We wanted to work with someone local. Similarly, we worked with Kyle Olthoff for videography. He and his team were great and captured our moments throughout the day beautifully.
Food
We used Shoobey Doo Catering. Their food was phenomenal!
Advice to couples currently planning their wedding
At the time of the wedding, hopefully everything has been planned and is in place. Now it is time to relax and enjoy every moment! Be sure to take some moments to yourself and with your partner throughout the day-it goes so fast and it is very nice to slow down and savior things.
