Today’s Jewish wedding is one for the books – and it just happens to have one of the coolest chuppahs we’ve seen, ever! London-based couple Sophie, a lawyer, and Jonny, who’s in real estate investment, made things official at Nobu Hotel Portman Square, and the mix of contemporary chic with traditional elegance made for the perfect backdrop for this very special day.
We are OBSESSED with the couple’s fairy light chuppah, which created the most magical atmosphere. This is such a fabulous inspiration if you’re after something a little different for your chuppah – and how good would it be for a winter wedding?!
The couple found the perfect photographer Smashing The Glass Recommended Vendor Liam Collard Photography. They loved Liam and Stam’s relaxed, down to earth approach, not to mention their exquisite documentary style photography – and needless to say, they could not be more thrilled with the results!
We’ll leave it to Sophie – who looked radiant in her bespoke gown from Suzanne Neville – to fill you in on the rest…
How We Met
Sophie, the bride: We met whilst at university but started dating through an app!
A Hotel Venue
Our venue was Nobu Hotel Portman Square. We loved the hotel and it was the perfect mix for us, being a traditional ballroom in a new and modern hotel.
Party Vibes
Sophie’s mum has worked in events for most of her life, so she was the chief wedding planner! We didn’t have a theme but wanted to make the evening more of a party than a super traditional wedding, as that’s what we love most!
For our production we used Richard at Creative Events who did a great job at transforming the room to create our vision.
Hair + Makeup
I used Hair by Montre for my hair, which I absolutely loved! It stayed perfectly the whole evening and he was so calm during the getting ready process. For make up I used Jennifer Oliver who was also amazing, she was so lovely to work with and my make-up was perfect!
A Suzanne Neville Dress
My dress was from Suzanne Neville, it was completely bespoke and I worked with the amazing team there to design my dream dress. The split in the skirt was an absolute must!
Ceremony & Chuppah
We wanted to do something a bit different for our chuppah, we went with a fairy light canopy which we felt created a beautiful atmosphere in the room. We also got married under Jonny’s grandpa’s tallit, which was extremely special as Jonny’s grandpa survived the Holocaust and so it represented the history of our family and the Jewish people in a meaningful way. We used a standard ketubah.
Our music choice
We had Totem as our band, who were absolutely amazing! We also had the addition of a grand piano on the dance floor during dinner, which brought amazing vibes!
Flowers
Our florist was Flowers by Alina. We used white and green flowers intermixed with lots of candles, which ran down the middle of our long tables. The aim was to create something modern and relaxed to match the party atmosphere.
Photographer and videographer
We spent quite a long time finding the perfect photographer for us, but when we spoke to Liam and Stam from Liam Collard Photography our minds were made up immediately. They were so relaxed and down to earth and we loved their documentary style of photography. It was great to meet them beforehand with our engagement shoot and we are so so happy with all the photos from the day! They did an amazing job of capturing the atmosphere perfectly.
For our video we used Lightbulb Films, who we also chose for their relaxed and non-obtrusive approach. We haven’t got the video yet but absolutely can’t wait to see it, we’re sure it will be amazing!
Food
Our caterer was Jason Millan, and the food was incredible, we had an Israeli style sharing menu and all the guests were raving about it for weeks!
Advice to couples currently planning their wedding
Don’t take the process too seriously, the day is all about having a good time and celebrating your love with family and friends! Enjoy it! Jonny’s advice is not to have a black tie dress code!
