As I walked down the aisle towards Mr STG, a string quartet struck the first notes of Barry White’s The First, My Last, My Everything. Then Jerusalem of Gold. Come on, there are no rules, right?
Under the chuppah, a chazan sang so soulfully that he captured and melted the hearts of all present. And when Mr STG smashed the glass, the strings started up again for a joyous Mazal Tov/Hava Nagila medley.
After dinner my dad and his cousin followed this with a surprise rendition of ‘Swell Party / Well, Did You Evah‘. And the DJ took the party from there. Our wedding was a very personal musical extravaganza from beginning to end and we just loved it.
When it comes to your Jewish wedding, the music you choose will be as important as the venue. It becomes the heartbeat of your day and carries your guests along.
Who can create your Wedding Soundtrack?
Meet Caliente — a Tel Aviv based company — who totally get this and will cover the ENTIRE soundtrack of your big day. They’re creative, massively experienced and provide DJs, bands, instrumentalists and singers to pretty much anywhere in the world.
They’ll sort out all your musical needs, including ones you didn’t even know you had — live singer with a DJ set anyone?
In fact, two of our upcoming STG real wedding features used these guys and LOVED them – watch out for those posts in the coming weeks.
Will they have something for you? Absolutely. Caliente has a HUGE collection of stunning acts. You can take your pick. They cover all musical genres from soft jazz ensembles, chuppah music (see the video below – I just love it), chamber string quartets, live artists and bands (with original or cover music) to seriously impressive top DJs that’ll rock your party.
About Caliente
Caliente was founded some 21 years ago and since then, they’ve been providing music to weddings in Israel and all over the world. Their experience is priceless. They really KNOW how to throw a party and they’ve long been recognised among Jewish communities.
How do they maintain their success? Staying fresh and relevant is super important to Caliente. They make it their priority to hire the coolest DJs and update all of their bands repertoires monthly. They feature the most talented artists in Israel (as well as international signings) and are unabashed perfectionists.
Live Artists
The demand for live acts has shot up over the last few years. And Caliente are currently booking more and more artists and bands with original music, to perform at weddings.
The artists are all top Israeli singers or seriously hot international acts who’ve been hand picked by Caliente. I love this Gypsy Balkan Mediterranean band they’ve signed for example — take a look at all their live artists here.
Live Bands
What are THE top 3 magical moments for live music at your wedding?
1. Chuppah
Nothing beats music at the chuppah. This really is the peak of the evening, the reason for the months of planning and dreaming. Why not underline it? Make a breathtaking entrance and go LIVE. An unplugged version of your favourite song, a violin quartet, a children’s choir, or a soul ensemble?
When it’s a live act, you and your guests will experience the ceremony differently. It’s personal, tailor-made and incredibly moving.
2. Reception
Cocktails, mingling and live music — it’s the perfect recipe to kick start a fabulous wedding.
But what sort of thing would work for you? A live band or DJ? High energy or relaxed? Hotel lobby style or a Cafà© del Mar vibe?
It’s the tunes you first hear at a wedding, while you catch up with friends and family, that create the magic. A Jazz quartet, a bossa nova trio, a chillout band or a cool cover ensemble. These acts will set the style and tone of your day. Have a look at these great live reception ideas.
3. Dance Floor
Jewish weddings are known for a GOOD PARTY, right?!
Caliente take enormous pride in their DJ department. They arguably have the best DJ crew in Israel. But interestingly, they advise their clients to consider a LIVE ACT during the dance sets.
The best way to communicate with the dance floor and capture the audiences is using live musicians to interact with the guests. A live band or vocalist to interact with the DJ can really spice up the set. And keep that all important dance floor energized all night.
Take a look at Legend, a Caliente favourite and Israeli’s biggest cover band. They really know how to whip up the crowd. Their repertoire is vast and contains all time classics alongside contemporary dance hits and Jewish Hassidic music.
Another total crowd pleaser is Sensation. This 15-piece band combines dance and electronic-house hits alongside a symphonic orchestra. Pretty powerful stuff.
Party People is Caliente’s DJ based band and is truly the ultimate party experience. It’s performed directly on the dance floor and is total high energy.
DJs
The DJ — a super important segment and often the key factor to a successful party. As Caliente say — “he’s the conductor, the integrator between various ages, genders, and origins”. Basically their job is to read the crowd and keep the dance floor full.
Their intuition and music choices will define the success of the evening. If you’re not having live music – he’ll have to know how to move the tunes from reception to dinner to dance floor. How an evening should evolve. Luckily Caliente have two decades of experience that can help with that.
Their DJs – nine to choose from – are a winning team. A combination of mentors and big shots. Including Sahar Z, Roi Tochner and Danny Tuval.
And DJ Yahel who’s one of the most respected international DJ’s that grew from the Israeli scene. He was ranked in 28th position in the top 100 DJ’s worldwide by DJ MAG .
So you can take your pick from the cream of Tel Aviv’s plentiful talents. Take a look at the full line up here.
In essence…
With an infinite number of musical possibilities, why not make your wedding a complete expression of you and your husband?
Maybe you want to keep it simple but effective. Or maybe you want it all – that top DJ, a live cover band, a soul singer AND a string quartet? Whatever your budget, music is such a central part to a Jewish wedding and deserves focus.
Caliente, the wedding music experts, will help you prioritise your soundtrack and get the atmosphere spot on.
