The Ketubah

theketubah-170For over 20 years I have been lucky enough to do something that I love. I create ketubot for everyone from interfaith to orthodox couples and everyone in between, including non-Jews with ketubah envy.

As a calligrapher, every ketubah that I make has hand lettering, my original watercolors as well as limited edition prints, and I work in a wide range  of styles and texts, so that I can offer something to everyone.

I made my first ketubah for a friend who could not find one for her interfaith wedding, almost nobody did them then, and made my 5th ketubah for a fabulous same sex couple, long before their legal wedding. Since then I have been honoured to work with all sorts of couples who want to have a piece of Jewish tradition in their wedding, and their home, all over the states and around the world.

Every couple should have a ketubah that is a piece of art, reflecting both their love and their style, and I would be happy to make it for them.

Past couples’ comments

We loved our ketubah! It was designed by Stephanie Caplan of The Ketubah. It was a gift from Bryan’s parents, and it now hangs in our living room, adjacent to our 1,001 origami crane family crest. They are some of our most treasured possessions.”

Kristin and Bryan

I wanted our Ketubah to reflect our garden theme, and after some intense Googling I found a wonderful illustrator in New York called Stephanie Caplan of The Ketubah who creating a stunning piece for us which we love so much that we now have it framed and hanging in our living room.”

Lee Ann and Andre

We just returned from being home where we were able to see our ketubah and can not thank you enough for the beautiful artwork! We will cherish the piece forever. It is stunning and your calligraphy is gorgeous.

Thank you for working with us to customize the ketubah even more with the Irish phrase. Our parents loved it and our mothers cried (always the sign of something beautifully done).

Thank you again for helping us add to our wedding with something uniquely us and done with such attention to detail.”

Aighleann and Josh

We were looking everywhere for a special ketubah and then we found Stephanie! What a talent. Stephanie’s ketubahs aren’t just sacred documents because of their content. They’re true works of art.

Her style is very unique, and I can honestly say, there is nothing like it out there.  We would want to buy Stephanie’s designs if they weren’t ketubahs, and that’s how we knew she was the artist for us. She was great to work with, and our orthodox rabbi liked her very much too.

At the wedding, everyone kept commenting on how beautiful and original the ketubah was. We’re so excited to showcase the ketubah in our home for the rest of our lives!”

Alyssa and Ian

It is AMAZING!!!!!  You are such a gifted artist. We can’t wait to have this displayed in our home for life – so many of our guests commented on how beautiful it was, and we couldn’t have imagined one that better represented our wedding, and our hopes for our marriage. Thank you for your beautiful work! ”

Jess and Lydia
