Well at least this years Oscars started well. Ahem. Obvious gaffe aside, there’s a reason why Justin Timberlake was asked to open the show with that *stunning* performance of Can’t Stop the Feeling.
Because it was fabulous and music is crucial to kick start and maintain an amazing night. Did you see the stars in the audience caught dancing? Jeff Bridges, Javier Bardem, Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman among them – all shaking off the pre-awards tension.
But that’s the Oscars, so how important is music at a wedding? Well, if you want it to be a memorable one, then VERY. Music creates the atmosphere and galvanises the memories of your big day. It’s the heartbeat – coercing cheers, tears and driving the dance floor. And with that in mind, today I’m posting about a live music provider for weddings that you really must know about — Sound Generation.
Why we heart Sound Generation
Sound Generation are a UK-based outfit that arrange some of the finest singers and bands to play at (good) Jewish weddings. Their acts — all of whom work full time in the industry – are highly sought after, having worked with global music stars including Beyonce, Rhianna, Ed Sheeran and Tony Bennett.
They have artists that cover all traditional Jewish wedding favourites, as well as harpists, pianists, jazz trios, DJs, string quartets, party bands, acoustic duos… you name it. Sound Generation’s acts are so impressive that they’re regularly seen performing at Ronnie Scott’s, Wembley Arena, the O2 and The Royal Albert Hall. This is the real deal folks!
And they so happen to have organised the music at the real wedding I chose to open 2017 with — the sensational Jewish wedding of Amy and Adam.
The Talent
Just imagine the entertainment at YOUR wedding… what style are you leaning towards? Sound Generation can provide oodles of audible food for thought
How about Louise? A phenomenally talented singer-songwriter who’s performed at Glastonbury and Isle of Wight Festival, is a regular at Ronnie Scott’s and Jazz Cafà©, and has supported the likes of En Vogue, George Benson, Roberta Flack, and The Stylistics.
Or Le Chiffre? – bring back the sassy-cool of Gatsby-era swing and blues. Stride piano lines and effortless, vintage vocals add a touch of class and elegance.
Maybe Heidi is more your bag — she’s one of the UK’s most highly regarded Jazz and Soul vocalists. And has performed across the globe with The Cinematic Orchestra – Jazz, Latin, Brazilian, Funk and Soul.
And of course you can’t go wrong with a string quartet. ESQ can deliver relaxed and elegant with their repertoire of classical, folk, musicals and pop. Perfect for reception drinks. The members of ESQ have all played at The Royal Opera House, The Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall.
Jewish Music
If you’re looking to include Jewish music, Sound Generation have a choice of bands who’ll perform brilliant, traditional Israeli dance sets.
Take a look at Dukebox City and Soul Essentials. They know how to build the atmosphere with those Israeli dancing classics we all know and love!
The back story
Sound Generation is a family business founded in 2010 by serious muso’s – Sofia Wilde and her husband James Titshall. Before they set up the business, Sofia was singing and James was playing drums at top London’s top night spots.
They knew they could programme a better quality of live music at some of the venues they were working with and so they created Sound Generation. They quickly established themselves as live music providers for some of the capital’s gems – Bar Boulud, Searcys, Corinthia Hotel and St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.
What Sets Sound Generation Apart?
In their own words “We’re more than just a directory of singers, bands and DJ’s; all our acts have been selected by us because of their outstanding talent, professionalism and reliability”.
Perfectly suited to our STG couples, they offer exceptionally high standards of service and acts that are as impressive as they are cool.
They will make sure everything runs perfectly with the live music at your wedding.
Experience and Passion
Sofia and James understand weddings. Getting the music right is their expertise and their big passion. As professional musicians, they’ve got years of experience performing at weddings themselves — in fact James still performs with one of SG’s bands — Briggs Street Players.
Because Sofia and James have first hand experience they can give invaluable advice. Be that act selection, playlists, first dances, logistics, lighting and sound — they know their stuff.
Authenticity
Sound Generation’s ‘thing’ is rustling up outstanding, professional acts that are authentic, on-trend and contemporary.
They don’t do gimmicks or tribute acts. If you wanted a flamenco guitarist, they’d get one of the best Spanish flamenco guitarists around. Like Andres — one of Sound Genertion’s acts – who happens to be one of the foremost Spanish Guitarists and Flamenco musicians in the UK.
Andres has brought his own Flamenco shows to Ronnie Scott’s, The Barbican, and The Union Chapel.
Their ultimate goal is to provide couples with unforgettable music entertainment for their wedding day.
How Much?
Pricing depends on so many factors including set duration, wedding location and the act itself. Wedding bands typically start from £2k, soloists from £400 and DJ’s from £700.
Have band, will travel
Sound Generation are based in London but their bands and singers travel nationwide, and internationally too.
