One of the great things about running Smashing The Glass is stumbling across great finds that I can’t wait to share with you, or in this case, being contacted by an incredible talent who completely gets the Smashing The Glass ethos and wants to share his forte (excuse the pun!) with you.
Simon Cohen is an extraordinary chazan (some say he is the best in the world) who I know will ignite your Jewish wedding ceremony with his musicality, soulfulness, and spirit.
Simon’s voice gives me goosebumps, and moreover, the range of music he performs is astonishing. He is just as breathtaking singing cantorial masterpieces like Avinu Malkeinu or Adon Olam, as he is with Hebrew classics such as Boi Veshalom or Eshet Chayil, and then there are the more entertaining pieces like Sunrise Sunset, Somewhere, Time To Say Goodbye and one of my all time favourites, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Music plays such an important role in our lives and your choice of chuppah music is perhaps one of the most meaningful parts of your wedding day. It can evoke memories, change a mood and define the style of your ceremony simply with a beautiful melody or significant lyric.
Simon’s repertoire spans across the board, and incredibly enough, he’s comfortable performing in Italian, English, Hebrew, French and even Yiddish, so you can go as traditional or as modern as you like!

Simon was born in London and grew up surrounded by cantorial and classical music. He studied at the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute under the world renowned Cantor Naftali Herstik, Cantor Chaim Feifal and pianist composer Raymond Goldstein, and today he is one of the leading young international cantors in the world. In addition to delighting at weddings and barmitzvahs, he has performed with prestigious international orchestras such as the Israeli Philharmonic, and sung at concerts in London, New York, Miami, Canada, Budapest, Capri and Istanbul.
His favourite ever wedding was in Capri overlooking an expanse of sea accompanied by musicians from the Rome Symphony Orchestra, singing alongside the great Andrea Bocelli.
Simon is a total joy to work with, and if you’re not sure about your ceremony music, he can work with your tastes and unearth some great musical ideas for your celebration.
“I love the first meeting with the bride and groom.. choosing their special song and then watching their faces as the music starts to play.”
