Some real weddings just have it all. Diane’s and Teddie’s big day was, without a doubt, one of those weddings. A beautiful blend of cultures? Check. A breathtaking, historical destination venue? Check. A chuppah so awe-inspiringly gorgeous that we mayyyy have spent half of our morning just gazing lovingly at it? Check, check, check.
Today’s supermodel of the Jew-ish wedding world (of course it had to be Italian) was planned by none other than our fabulous Recommended Vendor, Wed in Italy.
The couple, who first met in London, had such diverse backgrounds, with Diane being American and with Chinese heritage, and Teddie from Finland, decided to have their dreamy multicultural destination day on neutral territory.
With a 17th Century grand, historical venue the heart of Rome, with its impeccable, manicured gardens and ornate sculptures, the couple would have been forgiven for letting the venue do the talking when it came to dà©cor, but they went one better.
An abundance of fluffy floral arrangements in hues of pink adorned the venue, culminating in a chuppah sprawling with soft, blush pink roses, and one of the most simply stunning backdrops for a big day that you could possibly imagine.
Yet, despite all of the high-end dà©cor, bride Diane still managed to steal the show in her sweeping Marchesa Bridal Couture gown – what a beauty!
The romantic and cinematic video below was created by videographer, Paolo Manzi, and all of the divine details were captured by photographer, Lucy Tanner. We just know you’ll love this big day as much as we did.
How They Met
Raffaella Alflatt from Wed In Italy, the wedding planner: Diane and Teddie first met in London, United Kingdom. Both of them were far from home. Diane had come over to work from America, and also has Chinese origins, with both her parents being from Hong Kong.
If these walls could talk
The wedding took place at the magnificent 17th century Villa Aurelia, which was built by Cardinal Girolamo Farnese in 1650. There was something so enchanting about getting married at a site that has lived through thousands of cultural stories.
The biggest selling point was the garden, beautifully manicured with pockets of private areas and ornate sculptures. It was the perfect backdrop for an interfaith, Jew-ish ceremony.
Hiring a wedding planner
Bride Diane was full of imaginative ideas for her dreamy wedding, but she was looking for advice from a wedding professional. She decided to call upon Raffaella Alflatt of WedinItaly, a Roman native woman who has up to 10 years’ experience in the wedding industry.
As she is Italian, she was already well versed in planning a wedding in Italy, and choosing the most suitable vendors.
A Rome-inspired invitation
The invitation was uniquely elegant and traditional. They were made by a renowned London Mayfair printer, Mount Street Printers, with a map of Rome printed inside a chic blue envelope, with golden letterpress calligraphy.
Something a bit different
Diane wanted to surprise Teddie and go for a totally different style to her day-to-day look. She used Ilaria Borgioli Makeup.
A Marchesa gown
Diane’s dress was made by Marchesa Bridal Couture. She knew that it was the one from the moment she saw it. It met all of her expectations. She wore a lace veil.
Italian designer shoes
Diane’s shoes were by an Italian luxury footwear brand named Aquazzura. They were high heels and were as bright white as the dreamy dress.
Bridesmaids in bespoke blue
Diane had nine bridesmaids wearing blue, tailor-made dresses from the US.
An epic, floral chuppah
Married in a serene oasis that they had all to themselves, Diane and Teddie’s Jew-ish wedding in Rome saw them saying ‘I do’ under a floral structure of blush and pink roses.
Creative cake design
When it came to cake design, Diane let the caterer’s imagination run wild. They used Non solo torte by Angela Mazzucco.
Live entertainment
Bounce is a famous wedding band based in London. They are really experienced, and able to play all kinds of music. They are lovely singers and players, and that made all the difference.
