Hello, I’m Karen Cinnamon – welcome to Smashing The Glass!
This blog is both a passion and a full-time career for me. It all started back in 2013, when I was preparing for my own wedding. It began to dawn on me that there was no single place that brought together creative, inventive and original ideas for style-focused Jewish (and Jew–ish) soon-to-be brides and grooms.
Of course, we all love certain traditions – they’re wonderful and can really enrich the experience – but contemporary couples don’t necessarily want their weddings entirely dictated by them. The most important element is to make their day completely personal, and carve their individuality into every detail. It has to mean something.
I chose the name ‘Smashing The Glass’, both with reference to the traditional ritual of breaking a glass at the end of the ceremony and as a nod towards shattering the norm of the ‘Jewish wedding by numbers’. With this in mind, my intention is to bring a world of ideas and inspiration to couples who are keen to make their Jewish wedding stand out from the cookie-cutter crowd.
So have a look around and explore our creative, innovative content – from the best real Jewish wedding and interfaith Jewish wedding eye candy, to expert advice and access to the most desirable wedding vendors.
Discover too, my recently-launched Wedding Consultancy – a face-to-face two-hour session where I’ll give you all the advice, inspiration and direction you need, so you’re free to create a wedding that’s totally, utterly, wonderfully you.
On the blog and STG social media, there’s also the chance to discuss the emotional aspect of getting engaged and married, in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Please do join the Smashing The Glass private Facebook Group to share your wedding plans, and communicate with other Jewish (and Jew-ish!) brides, and feel free too, to ask me any questions, leave a comment, or contact me via Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram.
Oh, and once you get married, be sure to submit your wedding, so we can feature it on here. It’s my readers who ultimately make this blog a must-read – and I can’t wait to hear from you.
Award-winning designer Karen Cinnamon built a name for herself through her London digital and branding studio, which she founded and ran for more than 10 years.
Her passion for all things creative led to her putting her own truly imaginative spin on her Jewish wedding – while at the same time spotting a gap in the market for an online hub that brought together individual, inventive and original ideas for stylish Jewish (and Jew-ish!) soon-to-be brides and grooms.
Karen shares her knowledge and insights, alongside the best real Jewish weddings, with readers from around the world– and has recently launched a Wedding Consultancy service to enrich her offering.
In February 2016, Karen was voted one of the UK’s top 50 wedding bloggers – and later in the year was thrilled to be shortlisted (for the third year running) in the highly regarded Wedding Blog Awards. She was also delighted to be nominated in the ‘Jewish News’ forty most influential people under 40 in May 2015.
Karen is an accomplished speaker, and is often hired to speak to brides and wedding industry folk alike. She has spoken live at Brides The Show three years in a row (2014, 2015 and 2016) and most recently was invited to speak live to millions of viewers around the globe on BBC World News.
Outside of blogging, Karen loves playing Scrabble, Sunday brunch, pop art, dark chocolate, peanut butter, skiing, and all the latest tech gadgets.
She is married to Jeremy and they live in a converted piano factory in North London with their two daughters, Sacha and Zara.
